Cedarmere, the historic home of Poet and Editor William Cullen Bryant (A Nassau County Park Property) in Roslyn Harbor, will once again open its doors and grounds to language and poetry.  The monthly Sunday series is presented by the non-profit Friends of Cedarmere.  Produced and curated by poets Stefanie Lipsey and Liz Axelrod, the series will begin on Sunday, October 5 from 2-5pm. FIRST RESPONDERS AND STAFF RECOGNIZED BY MIDDLE SCHOOL PTO FOR EFFORTS TO HELP STRUCK STUDENT

First Responders and North Shore Middle School staff members were recognized by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) last Thursday evening for their efforts to help and comfort  a student who had been struck by a car at the corner of Kissam Lane and Glen Cove Avenue earlier this month. Although suffering broken bones and other injuries, the student is expected to make a full recovery.

ASSEMBLYMEN MONTESANO VISITS GLEN HEAD GLENWOOD BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

Assemblyman Michael Montesano made a surprise visit to the Glen Head Glenwood Business Association Meeting on Thursday, September 17th.  He spoke for a few minutes, saying that he believed there was a resurgence of businesses in the community and that home sales were on the rise.  In the picture above he is shown flanked by GHGWBA President Tucker Tongue (left) and Sea Cliff Village Trustee Edward Lieberman (right).

The opening will feature readings from Village Historians and others. The museum's extensive collection of children's clothing, toys, books and artifacts will be on display. The St. Boniface Martyr Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Sea Cliff is celebrating its 80th anniversary as a conference this year.  The story begins in Paris, France when, on March 5, 1934, at the international headquarters of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a letter of aggregation was issued to the St. Boniface Martyr parish conference, then a part of the Diocese of Brooklyn.  READ MORE

OPERA SOPRANO AND NORTH SHORE CHOIR TO PERFORM FOR BENEFIT OF WINTHROP HOSPITAL'S CANCER CENTER FOR KIDS

 Classical soprano Luisa Fernanda Munster will perform an enchanting program of classical and contemporary choral music along with the "North Shore Nightingales" Girls Choir on Saturday October 25 at 7 pm at the New Apostolic Church in Woodbury.  This concert will benefit the "Cancer Center for Kids" of Winthrop University Hospital and support the psychosocial program they provide to kids with cancer. READ MORE

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY STARTS SEASON WHERE IT LEFT OFF LAST YEAR

The North Shore Schools Women’s Cross-Country team traveled to Canton, New York (a few miles away from Canada) to compete in the SUNY Canton Pre-State Invitational. This will be the location for the upcoming New York State Cross-Country Championship in November. Starting where they left off last season, the Vikings placed first by 40+ points. 

Entering the season, the team had a winning streak of 76-0 in league competition and won six consecutive county championships.
