ROSLYN FARMERS MARKET HAS GRAND OPENING

August 11, 2014 -- After the weather caused the postponement of its launch the previous week, the Roslyn Farmer's market got off the ground this past Saturday, August 9th, offering a large variety of produce, organic grass-fed meats, jarred jams and relishes, olive oils and vinegars, baked goods and other items for sale.  Vendors include Bhumi Farms Delivery of Amagansett, providing organically grown vegetables, Long Island Meat Share offering grass-fed beef and pork from Spring Lake Farm in the Catskills, and Nordic Breads of Long Island City selling its 100% whole grain organic Finnish Ruis rye breads. By 1 pm, many of the baskets were close to bare. The Roslyn Farmers Market is open for business Saturdays through the end of October from 10 am to 2 pm and is located at the intersection of Old Northern Boulevard and East Main Street in the center of Roslyn Village. Matthew Schneider motioned for fellow musician Frank Ferrara to begin playing the electric guitar. Then Schneider signaled drummer James Guarnieri and the 26 elementary school kids enrolled in his SummerStrings! Junior Orchestra to begin their piano, bass, cello, viola and violin parts, too. Together, the ensemble played Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” to open their concert on August 6 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sea Cliff and captured the attention of all.  READ MORE

 Each year, Cassandra and Matthew Nochowitz, who live in Glen Head and attend the North Shore schools,  take the money that they have earned during the year and fill four backpacks with all the supplies that are needed for children their age. The contributions are collected as part of a program organized by the Glen Cove Youth Bureau, in collaboration with the Friends of Glen Cove Youth Board.  READ MORE

Reposted August 12 (Original Post - August 5, 2014) -- On Saturday August 16th, Sea Cliff will once again have a Farmer's Market.  On Monday August 4, the Sea Cliff Village Board voted to approve a "facilities use request" submitted by Glen Cove resident Amy Peters to operate a market on Central Avenue between Summit and Sea Cliff Avenues (in front of MUSU) from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.  READ MORE


SUMMER MUSIC SERIES - ONE PUNCH NELSON ROCKS THE BEACH LAST WEEK; LIVESTOCK TO PERFORM THIS FRIDAY; CHICKEN HEAD AT MEMORIAL PARK ON THURSDAY

One Punch Nelson energized the crowd at the beach this past Friday night performing a wide assortment of rock classics that included covers of the Beatles, Elvis Costello, Violent Femmes, and even Rick Springfield.  LiveStock will perform at Sea Cliff Beach this Friday, August 15th starting at 7 pm.  On Thursday, August 14th, classic rock n' roll cover band Chicken Head will perform at the Sea Cliff Civic Association's Sunset Serenade concert at Memorial Park from 7 to 9 pm.

IAN PETILLO'S LEGACY JAZZ BAND RETURNS TO MORGAN PARK SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL

On Sunday, August 17, Ian Petillo’s Legacy Jazz Band returns to Morgan Park Summer Music Festival. The concert, which is free to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Morgan Park.
            Gracefully evoking the Big Band and Jazz Band eras, Ian Petillo’s Legacy Jazz Band celebrates the sounds of the 1920s and 30s with music made famous by Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Fletcher Henderson, Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Harry James, among others. The band is also noted for its performances of Dixieland jazz and the classics of the Great American Songbook, including music by George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Rodgers and Hart, Billy Strayhorn and many more.  READ MORE



SUMMER DRUMMIN'

August 11, 2014 -- This past Wednesday evening nearly two dozen people turned out to participate in the Sea Cliff Drum Circle.  Now six years old, the Circle meets at Memorial (Sunset) Park in Sea Cliff the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7pm, weather permitting.  Anyone of any age is welcome to participate and encouraged to bring any type of acoustic percussion instrument - real or makeshift.

This beautiful Victorian structure located at the front entrance of the North Shore High School campus will provide an exciting interdisciplinary experience in multimedia for students now and in the future.
