The opening will feature readings from our Village Historians and others. The museum's extensive collection of children's clothing, toys, books and artifacts will be on display. August 20, 2014 -- Beginning modestly with a table displaying an assortment of small second-hand  items, and evolving over two and half years into an event that attracts bargain seekers from across Long Island and New York City, Offbeat Artifacts has hit the $25,000 mark in funds raised for the Sea Cliff Library.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Sea Cliff Library, the tag sale fundraiser that has set up shop on the Village Green nearly every other week (even enduring winter cold) could not be more appropriately named - offering items for sale that are as varied and sometimes quirky as the community it calls home.  READ MORE


DESPITE REPORTS OF LESS TEST PREP, NORTH SHORE'S 3-8 COMMON CORE TEST SCORES DO NOT APPEAR TO SUFFER; IMPACT OF OPT OUT UNCLEAR

Updated August 21, 2014 (Original post August 20) -- This past Thursday, the New York State Department of Education released results for the grades 3-8 English Language Arts and Math standardized assessments based on the Common Core Learning Standards.  Despite reports from district administrators and some students that there was less formal test preparation this past year than during the previous three years, grade level performance overall appears not to have suffered, although with nearly 10% of students having opted out, it is difficult to draw any clear conclusions from the data without looking at each individual child’s scores.  READ MORE


SEA CLIFF FARMERS MARKET HAS GRAND OPENING

August 25, 2014 -- After a number of years without one, Sea Cliff once again has a farmer's market. Operated by Amy Peters with support from the Port Washington based Grassroots Environmental Education Inc., the market had its grand opening on Saturday morning, with the 100% organically grown produce supplied by three nearby growers - Three Castles Farm in Westbury, Mr. Beagan Young, who grows all organic produce on a section of his family's farm on Hegeman's Lane in Old Brookville, and Orkestai Farm of Oyster Bay.  The market will be open, rain or shine, on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm through November.   In the picture above, Ms. Peters with her first customer.  For more information about the market, click here for the article FARMERS MARKET COMING TO SEA CLIFF ON SATURDAYS. 


SEA CLIFF ROCKS THIS PAST WEEK WITH THREE SUMMER CONCERTS

August 19, 2014 -- Summer music in Sea Cliff was in full swing this past week with a performance at Memorial Park on Thursday, and concerts at the beach both Friday and Saturday evenings.  Chicken Head, with special guest Cathy Virgilio joining the band for a few numbers, played a lively set of classic rock that had fans of all ages dancing under another picture perfect sunset at the Sea Cliff Civic Association's Sunset Serenade concert at Memorial Park, READ MORE 

NORTH SHORE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING ON THURSDAY AUGUST 28

A new season of North Shore Board of Education meetings kicks off on Thursday August 28th when the seven trustees and Schools Superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Robert Cheblicki and Assistant Superintendent Olivia Buatsi gather in the High School Library at 7:30 pm to discuss district goals for the 2014-15 school year, the possible installation of Blue Light phones on district campuses, and applications to serve on the district's Legislative Action Committee (LAC).  It is anticipated that the Board will first go into executive session at 7 pm.  As always, community members are encouraged to attend, and welcome to offer their thoughts and ask questions during the Public Comment portions of the meeting.

On Saturday, September 6, the Sea Cliff Good of the Village Association will be holding its annual Art and Antiques Show at St. Boniface Field from 9am to 4pm.  For sale will be a wide assortment of antique and collectible furniture, jewelry, paintings, prints, vintage porcelain, glass and sterling, as well as rugs and art.  A few spots are still available for vendors.  If interested, call 516 671 8399.
