July 16, 2014 -- With a large sign warning  “THIS BEACH IS CLOSED FOR BATHING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE" as a backdrop, Crescent Beach in Glen Cove played host Monday morning to a press conference at which elected local, state and federal officials announced a $2 million investment  that will lay the groundwork for the installation of public sanitary sewers in areas of Glen Cove and Sea Cliff.  READ MORE


LOCAL ARTISANS SET UP SHOP IN CLIFTON PARK FOR ANNUAL CRAFTS FAIR

July 15, 2014 -- The Sea Cliff Arts Council sponsored its annual Craftsman fair at Clifton Park in Sea Cliff this past Saturday.  Despite a downpour about an hour into the event, the fair went on as several local artisans adapted to the surprise and kept their booths open in the northeast corner of the park selling jewelry, sculptures, paintings, clothing, and tea among many other things.

July 11, 2014 (updated July 14) -- Sea Cliff Mayor Bruce Kennedy, a registered Republican for his entire adult life, has received the Nassau County Democratic Committee's nomination to be the party's candidate to challenge incumbent Republican Carl Marcellino to represent New York State’s  5th Senate District which comprises the north shore of Long Island from Hempstead Harbor to Northport.  According to the Mayor, the Suffolk Democratic Committee is expected to give its nod today as well. Although not required for receiving the party's backing, Mr. Kennedy said that he has filed papers to change his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat.  READ MORE

WITH LIRR STRIKE LOOMING, GLEN COVE AND MTA TO ARRANGE COMMUTER FERRY SERVICE

July 15, 2014 -- The City of Glen Cove, the MTA, and ferry charter company Seastreak have been meeting to work out a plan for enabling residents in the Glen Cove/North Shore area to commute to Manhattan via ferry service should Long Island Railroad service be disrupted as a result of a strike that could begin this Sunday.  At a press conference at Crescent Beach on Monday morning, Glen Cove Mayor Reginald Spinello said that the ferry company Seastreak was, at that moment, performing a test run of a 500 passenger vessel at the Glen Cove Ferry terminal.  READ MORE


GHGWBA AND FNBLI TO SPONSOR GLEN HEAD FARMER'S MARKET THIS SEPTEMBER

The Glen Head Business Association along with the First National Bank of Long Island will sponsor a Farmer's Market and Local Business Showcase that will take place on Sunday September 21, 2014 from 10 am to 3 pm in the bank parking lot at the corner of Roosevelt Street and Glen Head Road in the center of Glen Head. Rottkamp's Farm of Old Brookville will be selling produce, and Business Association members will be offering their wares for sale at booths.  This is the first year that the event is being held, and one that the GHGWBA is looking forward to sponsoring annually.  The rain date is the following Sunday. TAKE YOURSELF OUT TO THE BALL GAME WITH THE GOLD COAST PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Gold Coast Public Library is sponsoring an outing to Yankee Stadium on Friday, July 18.  The trip includes a visit to Monument Park and the stadium museum as well as great seats in section 209 for the 7:05 game between the Bronx Bombers and the Cincinnati Reds.  The $59 cost per person also includes transportation by coach bus which will leave from the Glenwood Landing American Legion Hall on Glen Head Road at 3:30 pm.  Register now, as space is limited.
