July 22, 2017 --  The Space at Westbury Theater is a concert venue that accomplished musicians dream to play. This Wednesday, July 26th  at 7:30 pm, kid and teen string players will take center stage there for the fifth annual SummerStrings!  RockFest. MUSE SWIRL AT CEDARMERE ON JULY 29 AND 30

​The Friends of Cedarmere, Inc. presents “MUSE SWIRL…a Celebration of the Greek Muses (with Ice Cream),” on Saturday and Sunday, July 29-30, at William Cullen Bryant’s Cedarmere Estate in Roslyn Harbor.  Saturday’s exciting line-up, beginning at 5:30 pm, features Dance Visions NY, in an outdoor program of Grecian-inspired dance classics by the great modern dance innovator Isadora Duncan, as well as by the company’s visionary director Beth Jucovy.  Sunday’s inside schedule marks the Cedarmere debut of Long Island’s rising-star baritone, John Brakatselos, in a program of celebrated opera arias, beginning at 3pm and repeated at 5pm.  (Cedarmere’s Great Room seating capacity is limited to 45 guests per concert.) With Lady Liberty in the background, the 2017 Around Long Island Regatta (ALIR) sailboat race begins July 27 at 2 P.M.     To make the start visible to more spectators, the Sea Cliff Yacht Club has for the first time in the 41 year history of this celebrated race moved to New York Harbor. It can now be viewed from both lower Manhattan and Jersey City.  READ MORE

ST. ROCCO'S FEAST AND PROCESSION THIS WEEK

July 25, 2017 -- In the image to the left, an effigy of St. Rocco, the protector against plague and contagious diseases, is rolled along Wolfle Street in Glen Cove on the culminating day of  the 2015 St. Rocco's Feast.  As the three hour procession makes its way through the neighborhood, devotees sing songs, recite prayers, attach monetary offerings to the statue, and visit the homes of the sick and infirm where the Pastor of St. Rocco's Church offers blessings with a relic of the Saint.   The procession, the central event of the five day Feast of St. Rocco, will take place following Mass on Sunday, July 30.  The festival begins the evening of Wednesday, July 26, and concludes Sunday night.

NASSAU COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART'S LATEST EXHIBIT CELEBRATES THE CITY AND ITS CITIZENS

The Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor hosted an opening reception for its latest exhibit
New York, New York this past Friday evening.  The works on display reflect a century of the City’s demographic and physical transformation from the pre-world war I tidal wave of immigrants and skyscraper building boom through the post 9/11 period.  Through a variety of media including oil paintings, prints, photography, and sculpture the showcase emphasizes the experiences of “ordinary” New Yorkers -- in some cases the mundaneness of daily existence and in others the excitement of urban life - whether it is at work, on the streets, in the subways or at leisure, at night clubs and bars or enjoying Coney Island. July 21, 2017 -- Police Inspector Daniel Flanagan, Commanding Officer of the Nassau County Police Department's 3rd Precinct discussed local and county-wide policing issues with Sea Cliff residents and the Village Board at its Monday, July 17 meeting, reporting that while crime is down across the County and in Sea Cliff, the community still faces challenges - most serious among them the opioid epidemic plaguing not only this area but Long Island as a whole and many areas of the country.  READ MORE

TEENS FROM LOCAL TROOP 195 EARN SCOUTS' (HIGHEST) HONOR

​On Friday evening, June 15th, Boy Scout Troop 195 recognized Jack Vogel and Joe Doyle for earning scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.  Joseph Doyle and Jack Vogel joined Troop 195 together in the sixth grade, tenting together at their first summer camp that year.  Then went on to become patrol leaders and senior leaders in the troop over the course of seven years. SEA CLIFF VILLAGE BOARD HONORS LOCAL RESIDENTS

At it's meeting last Monday, July 17, Mayor Ed Lieberman and Village Board Trustee Deborah McDermott who serves as the board's liaison to youth groups recognized Sea Cliff residents for their recent achievements.  Matthew Carmadella, received a certificate of appreciation for his 8 years of service as Commissioner of Sea Cliff Little League Baseball.  He is pictured above to the left of current Commissioner James Versocki.  Additionally Zoe Malin and North Shore High School English teacher Sara Millman, faculty advisor to the school's student newspaper The Viking View were recognized for the paper having won nearly three dozen awards at the Long Island Press High School Journalism Contest this past May.  Ms. Millman was recognized as one of three Advisors of the Year; Ms. Malin as one of three student journalists of the year; and the Viking View as one of three Newspapers of the Year.

July 19, 2017… After meeting two Long Island teachers, Irene Berman and Kate Hunter who both volunteer for The One Clip Organization, Carol Waldman, Executive Director of the Glen Cove Senior Center, was excited at the prospect of bringing together local seniors, teachers, and the children from the Glen Cove Youth Bureau’s After Three Program with support from the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County to participate in Operation Good Night Sleep Tight. I am tolerate of almost all living things but…ants. The ants on my property have jaws the size of a T-Rex and are not afraid to use them. So they bite and bite hard. This year I decided to stage Ant Armageddon. I was particularly interested in finding out if I could use any old household products which are not toxic to the environment and could reduce the clutter in my home. Here are the results of my campaign:

A Sea Cliff summertime tradition, dozens of children gather on the sands of Sea Cliff Beach each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am in late June and throughout July and August for the Childrens Library's Storytime hour with Librarian Ann DiPietro.  Storytime at the Beach will run through August 30.  Above, Ms. DiPietro reads and acts out the classic picture book Strega Nona by Tomie de Paola in 2015.

Mayor Reggie Spinello and Police Chief William Whitton invite all residents to participate in a fun and educational event to support the safety of our community.  This year’s National Night Out special honoree will be Coleen Cole Spinello, a children and community advocate. ASSEMBLYMEN ED RA SAYS PLEASE GIVE BLOOD AT GOLD COAST LIBRARY ON JULY 31

Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) invites his neighbors to a blood drive on July 31st from 1:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Gold Coast Library Annex, 40 Railroad Avenue in, Glen Head. The July 31st event is an opportunity to help those in need and save lives by giving blood. Those wishing to participate should be in good health and bring photo I.D, weigh at least 110 pounds, be between the ages of 16 and 75, and not have gotten a tattoo within the last 12 months (unless applied in New Jersey).  There is an award of 2 Mets tickets to every presenting donor. Call Assemblyman Ra’s office at 516-535-4095 to schedule an appointment.     “With New York in the middle of a blood emergency those who participate will be helping provide a critical resource to our area doctors and hospitals.” Ra said. “I encourage those physically able to participate and to help save a life.”
