COUNTY POLICE RESPONSE TO LOCAL OFFICIALS' CONCERNS YIELDS RESULTS

July 17, 2016 -- Interim acting Nassau County Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter was on hand at the July 11 Sea Cliff Village Board meeting  to discuss the actions the Department has taken the past couple of months to address “quality of life” issues and criminal activity within Sea Cliff.  Responding to concerns that Mayor Bruce Kennedy and Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D-Glen Cove) had brought to him this past spring regarding traffic law violations and the sale of illicit drugs, Commissioner Krumpter deployed special units to the village to investigate those concerns and to support the work of the third precinct's Problem Oriented Policing (POP) unit.​ READ MORE

SUMMER STRUMMIN' IN SEA CLIFF ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHTS

​Summer music in Sea Cliff is now in full swing with outdoor concerts being held on both Thursday and Friday nights.  On Friday, July 22, One Punch Nelson and the Overlooks will perform at Sea Cliff Beach from 7 to 10 pm.  On Thursday July 21, the Rusty String Band (above) performed at Sunset Serenade.

​Glen Cove, New York - July 22, 2016 - The Stanton Anderson Band returns to the local stage on week four of the 2016 Downtown Sounds Concert Series at the Village Square Plaza in Glen Cove on July 22 at 7:30 pm. Formed in 1972, SAB original members Mark Fowler, Larry Luby and Rick Silecchio will be on hand to revive a sound that helped to create the Long Island music scene of the 1970s.  READ MORE

GLEN HEAD & GLENWOOD CIVICS UNITED IN OPPOSITION TO RXR/GLEN ISLE GARVIES POINT WATERFRONT PLAN

Eight civic associations in Glen Head and Glenwood Landing have announced their opposition to the RXR/Glen Isle Development plan proposed for the Glen Cove Waterfront.
“The plan is too massive and too dense to be considered even remotely sustainable,” said George Pombar, President of the Glen Head-Glenwood Civic Council, an umbrella organization comprised of the civic associations active in the two hamlets. READ MORE

GC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MAKES DONATION TO COMMUNITY MAINSTREAMING

Members of the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce recently held their monthly meeting at the Atria Senior Living Center on Glen Street.  This was part of the chambers regular monthly meetings where local businesses get to network.  Each month a different host holds the meeting where they can discuss their own business in detail.  At the meeting held at the Atria, the chamber presented a $250 check to the Community Mainstreaming Association.

YOUTH BUREAU RECEIVES GENEROUS DONATION OF POOL TABLE

Thanks to the generosity of Sandy and Mike Erlich of New York City and Maureen and Tab Hauser of Glen Cove, the Glen Cove Youth Bureau received a donation of a beautiful new pool table. Mr. and Mrs. Erlich recently sold their Sands Point home and needed to find a new recipient for their pool table.  Tab and Maureen Hauser put the Erlichs in touch with the Youth Bureau and underwrote the cost of moving the pool table to its new location.  Summer Youth Employment students were on hand for the delivery and could not wait to break in the new table.  Many thanks to The Erlichs and Hausers for their generosity to Glen Cove youth.

​FIRST EVER SEA CLIFF KIDS’ PARADE CELEBRATES A YOUNG GIRL’S REMARKABLE RESOLVE AND RECOVERY

July 21, 2016 -- With a beaming Frances Breen seated atop a vintage 1930s yellow fire engine leading the way, hundreds took part in a joyous procession up Sea Cliff Avenue from Lincoln Plaza to Clifton Park this past Sunday morning in the first ever “Kids Parade.” Sponsored by the Sea Cliff - Glen Head Lion’s Club, in what is anticipated to become an annual event, this year’s march was held in honor of Frances, a seven year-old Sea Cliff resident whose miraculous recovery from life threatening burns suffered in an accident this past March was truly something to celebrate. ​July 15, 2016 -- In a taxpayer funded mailing to Sea Cliff residents dated July 7, Norma Gonsalves (R- East Meadow), presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature, accused Legislator Delia DeRiggi Whitton, (D-Glen Cove), who represents the communities surrounding Hempstead Harbor from Glen Cove to Sands Point, of holding up $4 million in funding to connect the Sea Cliff Avenue sewer line to the Nassau County waste treatment plant in Glen Cove, and urged residents to pressure the Legislator to support, when it again comes up for a vote, the County’s 2015-16 Capital Improvement Plan which includes the project.  READ MORE

THE SHOW MUST GO ON

For the second year in a row, a strong early evening thunderstorm led to the cancellation of the Hunt and Hughes Sunset Serenade performance at Memorial Park on  July 14.  But once again, an audible was called and the performance moved under cover to the front porch of Ann and Dan DiPietro, where the duet entertained scores of no longer disappointed concert goers.  

GLEN HEAD GLENWOOD BUSINESS ASSOCIATION HOSTS ITS SECOND ANNUAL FAMILY BARBEQUE

The Glen Head Glenwood Business Association held its second annual Family Barbeque this past Wednesday July 20 at the American Legion Hall on Glen Head Road. This year, the invitation was extended to the entire community, and dozens of local business people, residents and their families turned out for the event which included not only great barbeque fare prepared by Brookville Caterers and music by Kenny Kraft, but also face painting by Patricia of Fabulous Faces and other fun activities for the kids. The exhibition opens at Nassau County Museum of Art on July 30, 2016, and remains on view through November 6, 2016. Feast for the Eyes, a sweeping two-floor exhibition focused on food and dining in art, features works by a sweeping array of artists, including Audrey Flack, Red Grooms, George Grosz, Henri Matisse, Claes Oldenberg, Cindy Sherman and Andy Warhol, among many others.

NORTH SHORE BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING ON AUGUST 1 - PUBLIC WELCOME, COMMENT NOT

The North Shore Board of Education will meet on Monday, August 1 at 7:30 pm in the Central Office at 112 Franklin Avenue, Sea Cliff, for a meeting to set the tax levy for the 2016-17 school year. The public is welcome to attend, but there will be no opportunity for Public Comment.  The next regularly scheduled meeting will take place on September 1 in the High School Library.  If you would like to receive school emails, please visit the District's website at www.northshoreschools.org.  There is a subscribe button at the top of the homepage (or unsubscribe if desired).

​The Sea Cliff Arts Council will be hosting a group show for young artists from 5 to 18 years of age, to be hung in the Daniel Gale Sotheby’s Sea Cliff office gallery walls for the months of August and September 2016.
Please drop your framed, 2 dimensional, ready to hang artwork at the Sea Cliff Daniel Gale office - 266 Sea Cliff Ave. on Thursday July 28th between 3 and 5 pm. Framed work should be no larger that 16x20 and should be clearly labelled with child’s name, name of work, medium, phone number and email address. 

CAN YOU HELP US FILL A CHILD'S BOOKBAG? BACK TO SCHOOL DONATIONS WANTED

The Glen Cove Youth Bureau, in cooperation with the Friends of the Glen Cove Youth Board is teaming up with local citizens, organizations and businesses to provide back to school supplies to disadvantaged youth in our community.  A backpack filled with supplies is presented to children who otherwise would not have what they need to succeed in their studies.  Last year, 266 children in grades K – 12 received back to school supplies as a result of this effort.  READ MORE

​Sea Cliff Arts Council presents "The Beauty of Sea Cliff and Long Island," a group show on exhibit for July and August at Sea Cliff Village Library. It includes a wonderful variety of oil painting, watercolors, and photography. The Exhibit runs through the end of August.
