When Bill Terzi, co-owner of J.W.'s Public House on Glen Head Road, left his job in telecommunications after having worked in the industry for 25 years, he saw his opportunity to return to his roots - as a restaurateur.  His parents had owned Lorraine Murphy's in Manhasset, a place that not only introduced him to the restaurant business, but also to his wife and J.W.'s co-owner, Mary, to whom he has been married for 26 years.

NORTH SHORE BOE MEETING ON THURSDAY JUNE 19

The North Shore Board of Education will meet on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in the North Shore High School Theatre. Tenure & Retirement Recognition will take place from 6:30-7:30 PM. Executive Session will follow from 7:30-8:00 PM (not open to the public). The regular BOE Meeting will then follow at 8:00 PM (open to the public). The agenda topics will include:  District Goals 2014-2015;  Policy - Personnel Records & Confidentiality of Disciplinary Investigations. 

An upcoming meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 1, in the HS Library at 7:30 PM. The topics will include an Educational Organizational Meeting

BALINESE GEMELAN ENSEMBLE YOWANA SARI TO PERFORM AT CEDARMERE LATER THIS MONTH

The Friends of Cedarmere will host an outdoor concert on Saturday, June 28, starting at 3:30 pm.  Following upon a successful fundraising event in May, this is the first musical offering in the group’s inaugural culture series known as Seasons at Cedarmere.  To celebrate an exciting new era in the history of this famed residence of poet, journalist and civic leader, William Cullen Bryant, the Friends have invited a spectacular Balinese gamelan ensemble to perform in the Sunken Garden on the Cedarmere grounds.  READ MORE

NASSAU COUNTY GOP RESCINDS KENNEDY ENDORSEMENT AFTER CONSERVATIVE PARTY RAISES OBJECTIONS OVER SAME SEX MARRIAGE

June 16, 2014- The Nassau County Republican Committee, which in late May had endorsed Sea Cliff Mayor Bruce Kennedy to be the party's candidate for the 13th Assembly District seat currently held by Democrat Charles Lavine, has rescinded its nomination. According to Mr. Kennedy, who spoke about the issue at a campaign kick-off event Monday evening, and who responded to questions from Northwordnews on Sunday, the Republican Committee withdrew its support after Nassau County Conservative Party leaders refused to back the Sea Cliff Mayor because he had officiated two same-sex marriages.  READ MORE

Several residents of Bay Avenue in Sea Cliff expressed their concerns regarding the potential impact of the May 1 mudslide on their properties, and the apparent lack of progress in stabilizing the hill and cleaning up the debris that slid into Hempstead Harbor.  The first speaker said that five weeks after the slide debris is still in the harbor in front of his home and he is worried about continuing erosion.  “What is the Village doing about it?” he asked. THE GOLD COAST PUBLIC LIBRARY'S 2ND ANNUAL SUMMER KICK OFF THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

A weekend of fun for all ages! On Friday evening, June 20, Pat Farrell and the Cold Spring Harbor Band will get you rockin’ to the tunes of Billy Joel. On Saturday enjoy a magic show, live animals and local teen band Mac, Dylan and Cody.  And that’s not all! There will be face painting, crafts, and child safety kits provided by County Executive Ed Mangano.  Register for all Summer Reading programs too!
