​June 28, 2017 -- Running on a message to clean up town government, Oyster Bay Town Council candidate and Sea Cliff resident James Versocki spoke to supporters at a fundraiser sponsored by the recently formed Hempstead Harbor Democratic Club and held at the Metropolitan Bistro this past Tuesday evening. Joining Mr. Versocki was the presumed slate of Democratic candidates for the town council that includes Marc Herman for supervisor and Ava Pearson and Bob Freier for the other two council seats on the ballot. TRUSTEES TO BE SWORN IN AT NORTH SHORE BOE MEETING ON JULY 5

The North Shore Board of Education will be having its organizational meeting for the 2017-18 School Year on Wednesday July 5.  Trustee Joanna Commander will be sworn into her second three year term on the board and Richard Galati to his first.  Additionally the board will choose its officers for the upcoming school year as well as appoint various individuals, firms, and other entities to help the school district carry out its operations.  Residents are welcome to attend and there will be a period for public comment.  The meeting will begin at 7:30 pm in the North Shore Middle School cafeteria.

STORYTIME AT SEA CLIFF BEACH EVERY WEDNESDAY MORNING ALL SUMMER LONG

A Sea Cliff summertime tradition, dozens of children gather on the sands of Sea Cliff Beach each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am in late June and throughout July and August for the Childrens Library's Storytime hour with Librarian Ann DiPietro.  Storytime at the Beach will run through August 30.  Above, Ms. DiPietro reads and acts out the classic picture book Strega Nona by Tomie de Paola in 2015.

SEA CLIFF CIVIC ASSOCIATION'S SUNSET SERENADE KICKS OFF SIXTEENTH SEASON

June 29, 2017 -- A Sea Cliff summer weekly ritual for many, about 200 people filled Memorial Park on Thursday evening for the first performance of the season in the Sea Cliff Civic Association's  summer music series "Sunset Serenade," now in its sixteenth year.  Sea Cliff Civic Association President Ann Depietro welcomed the concert goers and congratulated Larry Martone for opening the series just about each year since it began in 2001. Mr. Martone and his band played a wide mix of folk and light rock throughout the evening under a hazy Sea Cliff summer sunset. Concerts are held every Thursday evening from 7 to 9 pm at the park where Sea Cliff Avenue intersects with Prospect. Next week's concert will feature the band Livestock.

Over his past three years at North Shore High School (he was enrolled at Chaminade High School in 2013), Donald Ahrens has truly excelled. Among his long list of academic honors, his athletic accomplishments have been exceptional. He was an All-County Lacrosse player and one of the first athletes in the Class of 2017 to sign a “Letter of Intent” to Yale University. Don also was an Academic All-American, an ice hockey assistant captain, a member of “Athletes Helping Athletes,” and a Peer Leader. READ MORE

 Dear Great Book Guru,  With the Fourth of July long weekend coming up, I can barely contain my excitement.  Starting July 1 Saturday, there is going to be bike and trike decorating party on the front lawn of the Children’s Library. Then on Monday, the eve of the Fourth, we will be attending the annual Happy Birthday USA- again at the Children’s Library.  Joe Hughes will lead the songs and everyone will share in a lavish birthday cake.  Of course, the major event will be the Reading of the Declaration of Independence on the Village Green on the Fourth followed by a parade down Sea Cliff Avenue to Lincoln Plaza.  And, yes- all these are sponsored by the Sea Cliff Civic Association with everyone in the Village invited to attend.   Do you have something for me to read between these gala celebrations ?  Fervent Fan of the Fourth

During the week of June 19th, families, administration, faculty and staff were warmly welcomed to the Moving Up ceremonies of each of the three North Shore Elementary Schools led by their respective principals including Dr. Chris Zublionis (Sea Cliff), Mrs. Bridget Finder (Glenwood Landing) and Mrs. Lori Nimmo (Glen Head). In addition, Principal Dr. Marc Ferris at North Shore Middle School led his eighth graders in a memorable Moving On ceremony which was held on June 22nd, 2017, at North Shore High School. 29TH ANNUAL JOHN MACCARONE GOLF TOURNAMENT TO BENEFIT GLEN COVE STUDENT ATHLETES

June 15, 2017 … It’s tee time to make your reservations to play in the 29th Annual John Maccarone Hall of Fame Golf Tournament which will be held on Monday, July 17 with a shot gun start at 7:30 a.m. at the Glen Cove Golf Course. Not only will participants engage in a fun-filled day on the course, but all of the event proceeds go towards the John Maccarone Scholarship Fund.  Since its inception, the scholarship fund has awarded over $100,000 to outstanding student-athletes.  As a result of last year’s successful tournament, seven graduating seniors from Glen Cove High School’s Class of 2017 will be awarded $8,000 in scholarship money. THAT WILD, WACKY SEA CLIFF GOLF EVENT IS COMING AGAIN

Yes, that zany, crazy golf event through the front and back lawns, hidden gardens, parks and passageways of our 133 year old Victorian village is back. The Sea Cliff Good of the Village Association will use this delightfully wacky contest as their primary fundraiser for 2017. Watch for further details. GOLD COAST PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT ELECTION SET FOR SEPTEMBER 12, 2017

On September 12, 2017, residents of the Gold Coast Public Library District (GCPLD) located in Glen Head, NY, who are eligible to vote in a general election will vote for as many as three candidates to fill three open seats on the Board of Trustees and to establish the Library budget for 2018.
