DOOBIE DECIBEL SYSTEM OPENS FOR JASON CROSBY BAND AT STILL PARTNERS THIS WEDNESDAY

PicturePhoto by Bob Minkin

Doobie Decibel System opening for Jason Crosby Band on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 - 8:30pm at Still Partners

by Karin Conn

Jason Crosby and Roger McNamee formed a duo called "Doobie Decibel System” (DDS).  As the Dewey Decimal System organizes library materials by discipline or field of study, the Doobie Decibel System throws its diverse musical talents together to create riffs and songs that cross genre and generation.
This duo is the ideal blending of two distinct voices - McNamee's crisp, sharp vocals, and Crosby's smooth, low-register vocals. Together they create audacious harmonies. When paired with their diverse guitar styles (McNamee strums with a pick, while Crosby fingerpicks melodies) they create a melodic sound pleasing to the ears.

SEA CLIFF CHILDREN CELEBRATE STENSON LIBRARY CENTENNIAL WITH MAYPOLE DANCE

May 16, 2015 -- In a ritual far more common a century ago than it is today, about three dozen children danced and wrapped streamers around a Maypole this past Wednesday afternoon in front of the beautifully restored Stenson Library - 100 years to the day after the neo-classical building on Sea Cliff Avenue opened to the public.

Sea Cliff Children's Librarian and Civic Association President Ann Dipietro, who has organized this “Founder’s Day” tradition for many years remarked, “Every May 13 on the front lawn, children and adults are magically transported back over the years to the day the Library opened for the very first time. The Maypole dancers, the birthday singers, all of us - enjoying this sweet moment in Sea Cliff's ever unfolding story!”

May 16, 2015 --
Assemblymen Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square), Al Graf (R,C,I-Holbrook), Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) and Dean Murray (R,C,I-East Patchogue) recently introduced a Legislative Resolution urging support for efforts to reduce the annual testing mandate imposed by “No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.”

The sponsors of the Resolution are requesting that members of the state Legislature urge their Congressional representatives to support the Student Testing Improvement & Accountability Act (H.R. 452). This legislation, introduced by Congressman Chris Gibson (NY-19), would empower state and local school districts by reducing the annual, federally-mandated standardized tests in schools across the U.S.
