THE BATON HAS BEEN PASSED

Received from Dan Maddock, Sea Cliff
March 22, 2017

To the Editor:

The baton has been passed to a new generation in Sea Cliff. The election of Deborah McDermott to the Village Board confirms it. A new wave of community activists has rolled over the Village and that is a good thing. They are bright, energetic and involved. The Sea Cliff Open Government Party is here to stay, with new ideas and energy. All are welcome.

NEW TRUSTEE'S GOOD FORTUNE WILL BE GOOD FOR THE REST OF US

Received from Phil Como, Sea Cliff
March 22, 2017

To the Editor,
Congratulations to Ms McDermott on her win in the just-concluded Sea Cliff election. She will now have to engage in the pesky business of governance-including collegiality with her fellow officials.
I wish her good fortune, because her good fortune as trustee will no doubt be good for the rest of us.

MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER

Received from Deb McDermott, Sea Cliff
March 22, 2017

To the Editor:

Yesterday’s turnout of 1034 Sea Cliff voters (plus 38 who voted by absentee ballot) was big by recent measures in our village. So many people in the small space of the Children’s Library is a challenge that our Village Clerk, Marianne Lennon and her team of poll workers managed well and I am grateful for their professionalism and dedication. I am grateful to every person who voted yesterday – not just for me – but every person who thought about what they want Sea Cliff to be and who came and expressed that view with their vote.

I don’t know 725 people in Sea Cliff. I do know that there are many people who supported me during the campaign and now I know there were many more people talking and thinking about open communications, and accessible, engaging government. I am grateful for each of you and all that you’ve done to bring forth the Sea Cliff Open Government party and to help get me elected as its first candidate. However, now we need to turn our energy and attention to moving forward. READ MORE

TEACHERS UNION'S OPT OUT CARD SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED

Received from Jerry Romano

Sea Cliff
March 26, 2017

( Editor's Note -  the following letter was also sent to the North Shore School District Board of Education Sunday, March 26, 2017)

To the Editor:
Good leaders lead and are able to articulate the mission so the troops follow. After receiving the Opt Out card from the North Shore Schools Teachers Unions this past week it’s glaringly obvious that the North Shore School District lacks effective leadership and that the employees don’t understand the mission. The teachers union polling the community should not be tolerated. This is what we call in business, “the inmates running the prison”. Employees don’t decide what and how the work is done. They can have an opinion. They can make their case to management and that’s where it ends. Only a juvenile view of the workplace would think that it is a democracy. This is classic case on “misplace authority” where the workers believe that they are more important than management and more important than the school board. The North Shore Teachers Union is interfering with the education of the children in our community and it needs to stop.  READ MORE
