TREASURES FOR ALL TASTES AT NASSAU COUNTY ART MUSEUM'S OUT OF THE VAULT EXHIBIT 

The Nassau County Museum of Art hosted an opening reception this past Friday evening for its Spring 2015 exhibit, Out of the Vault: 25 Years of Collecting.  A celebration of the Museum's 25th anniversary, the exhibit showcases works from  it's permanent collection that have rarely or never been on public display. Each gallery focuses on a particular theme or artist, but collectively the treasures on exhibit offer something for everyone, from art enthusiasts of varying tastes, to history buffs and nature lovers. IZOTE'S NIGHT FOR SIGHT SUPPORTS EYESIGHT INITIATIVES IN EL SALVADOR 

March 23, 2015 -- Izote, a local non-profit that has committed itself to supporting sustainable development projects in impoverished communities in El Salvador through literacy, health, and ecology initiatives, held its fourth Annual Volcano Rock and Roll Dinner Dance fundraiser at the Sea Cliff Manor this past Saturday night.   The event, "The Night for Sight," was devoted to Izote's efforts in El Salvador that have given thousands the opportunity to receive sight saving surgeries and other treatments.  READ MORE

BOY SCOUT TROOP 43 COLLECTS A TON OF FOOD (LITERALLY)

Despite a near washout on Saturday March 14th, Boy Scout Troop 43 of Sea Cliff managed to collect 1961.5 pounds of food for our 2015 Scouting for Food drive! The troop proudly helped to stock 3 local food pantries, delivering 650 pounds of food to our 3 designated beneficiaries; The North Shore Inn of Glen Cove, Saint Boniface Food Pantry and Sea Cliff Mutual Concerns.  The troop displayed great cooperation and teamwork in planning this wonderful service project for the people in our community.  For more information about Troop 43 visit their website seaclifftroop43.org

SEA CLIFF RESIDENTS TURN OUT TO SUPPORT STENSON MEMORIAL LIBRARY RENOVATION

A very successful cocktail party fundraiser, jointly sponsored by The Friends of the Sea Cliff Village Library, the Gottleib Foundation, the Sea Cliff Landmarks Association and the Good of the Village Committee, was held at the Stenson Memorial Library this past Thursday to raise funds to close a $40,000 shortfall in the library renovation project's budget. Plans for the renovation changed after the building's original coved ceiling was discovered, and officials decided to restore the interior so as to highlight its early 20th century form and beauty, with a new ceiling, uplighting and new flooring.

re-PLANTING is an open community event, through Glenwood Arts, being held on Earth Day, April 22nd, 6:30 pm--featuring a group exhibition of art, photography, film, music, commentary and more. The event location is at Glenwood Community Church, 71 Grove St., Glenwood Landing.
re-PLANTING is inspired by the dismantling of the iconic Glenwood Power plant, an historic and architecturally unique landmark that for nearly a century provided jobs and electrical power to the area. re-PLANTING will document and memorialize the role of the plant in the community and start a dialogue about what happens in its absence. MAKING SENSE OF THE CIVIL WAR AT CEDARMERE THIS SPRING

The Friends of Cedarmere will partner with the New York Council for the Humanities this spring to host a free public Reading and Discussion Program on the theme Making Sense of the Civil War.  It’s especially fitting that this Program comes to Cedarmere, the historic home of William Cullen Bryant, a major voice in journalism throughout the Civil War period, and an important advising supporter of Lincoln. The Council Program will altogether comprise six sessions—from 7 to 8:30 pm on consecutive Monday evenings—running March 23 through May 4, including a one-week ‘mid-term’ break.  READ MORE
