NORTH SHORE X-COUNTRY RUNNER NAMED LONG ISLAND RUNNER OF THE YEAR

Picture
Diana Vizza, a senior at North Shore High School,  completed an historic Cross Country season this past fall. The only runner from Nassau County to qualify, she competed in the  Nike Cross-Country National Championship in Portland, Oregon earlier this month, at which she finished 34th in the nation among nearly 200 entrants. But that was only the icing on the cake of a truly spectacular season that included winning the New York State Class B championship by defeating the nearest competitor by 30 seconds and being named by Newsday as the Long Island Cross-Country runner of the year, and by the Nassau County Coaches Association as the county's top runner of the year. The Dartmouth-bound scholar-athlete also ran the fastest time for all of Long Island on multiple cross country courses during the regular season.  Photo by Mr. Vizza
