LET IT SNOW !  WEATHER COOPERATES FOR SEA CLIFF CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING

December 8, 2013 -- Sea Cliff was transformed into a winter wonderland as the skies opened and snow began to fall just as the Christmas Tree Lighting festivities commenced at the John Burns Village Green this Sunday evening.  Local guitarist and songstress Kris Rice greeted residents with the classic “Let it Snow”, and de facto village emcee John Canning officially  kicked the festivities off with an introduction and an a cappella version of “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of Year.”  READ MORE  


GLEN HEAD WELCOMES HOLIDAY SEASON WITH CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING

December 4, 2013 -- The Glen Head Rotary Club welcomed in the holiday season with its  annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Glen Head Railroad Station this past Thursday evening.  Visitors filing into the cordoned off area in the lot on the eastside of the tracks, were greeted with the festive sounds of  holiday music performed by the North Shore High School Brass Ensemble, under the direction of the always charismatic David Soto.  READ MORE

December 7, 2013 -   On Friday evening, Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Glen Head celebrated the arrival of the Christmas season with its Living Nativity. . . .   Youth in the religious education program, from pre-k through college, along with their teachers, performed the roles of Mary, Joseph, Herod, the three wise men, angels and shepherds, as real live animals gave the stable an authentic appearance and sound. SC BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE GETS INTO THE SPIRIT WITH WREATH-TYING PARTY

December 4, 2013 -- The North Shore High School cafeteria was transformed into a mall this past Thursday evening as more than 30 vendors set up shop for the Glenwood Landing School Community Association's Family Shopping Night. VOTERS APPROVE $19.6 MILLION INFRASTRUCTURE BOND

December 3, 2013 -- On Tuesday, residents of the North Shore School District voted to approve a $19.6 million bond proposal to fund infrastructure improvements in the district’s three elementary schools, middle school, high school, transportation depot, and administrative building.  The vote was  751 in favor, and and 576  against. CHILDREN LEAP AND TWIRL AS SEA CLIFF LIBRARY HOLDS 23rd ANNUAL NUTCRACKER WORKSHOP

The Sea Cliff Children's Library held its annual "Introduction to the Nutcracker" workshop this past Saturday morning.  Led by the Library's director, Ann DiPietro and her husband Dan, who have held the event each December for the past 23 years, the nearly twenty children in attendance were introduced to the story, dance, and music of the Christmas-time classic as well as to ballet as an art form.  READ MORE

CRITIQUE GROUP OF LONG ISLAND EXHIBIT AT DANIEL GALE/SOUTHEBY'S IN SEA CLIFF

December 8, 2013 -- An artist's reception for the "Critique Group of Long Island" was held at Daniel Gale Sotheby's in Sea Cliff this past Sunday afternoon.  The exhibit, sponsored by the Sea Cliff Arts Council, will continue through January 3, 2014. 
     The group of thirteen artists met at the Creative Arts Studio in Sea Cliff. They get together on a monthly basis to engage in a dialogue, with the common goal of bringing each person’s body of work to a higher level of accomplishment.  READ MORE


GLEN HEAD ARTIST'S WORK ON DISPLAY IN LONG ISLAND ACADEMY OF FINE ART EXHIBIT

December 6, 2013 -- Glen Head Artist Larry Aaron's piece "Black and White Cali Lily" (upper left in photograph) was accepted into The Long Island Academy of Fine Art's "Wrap It Up" - the art school's first annual small works Holiday Benefit and Exhibition.  A reception was held at the Academy's Glen Cove gallery this past Friday evening and the exhibition will continue until the end of the month.  50% of all proceeds from the sale of works will go to the Glen Cove Arts Council Scholarship Fund - which helps underprivileged students in the area who have an interest in the arts. CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF KAZAN HOSTS RUSSIAN HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE

Sea Cliff's Church of Our Lady of Kazan held its annual Russian Holiday Boutique this past Saturday Afternoon. As visitors approached the parish hall they were greeted by an organist playing traditional carols and more modern holiday pieces. Inside, traditional Eastern European pastries and other tasty foods such as baklava, pirogis and Christmas cookies were served, and a variety of traditional Russian gift items, jewelry and crafts including Matryoshka Dolls were for sale.

December 6 -- Angels, jesters, candy canes, snowflakes, Chinese and Arabian dancers—see them all in Sea Cliff on December 14 at the Long Island Ballet Academy & Dance's annual Nutcracker.
