January 7, 2015 -- It should be no surprise that virtually no one was there to witness Tuesday morning's Oyster Bay Town Board meeting that lasted all of 12 minutes. Yes, the agenda was thin with only 25 resolutions to consider.  However, of all local governments that have jurisdiction over areas of the north shore of Long Island from the Queens line through western Suffolk County, the Oyster Bay Town Board is unquestionably the most inaccessible, with meetings held at times that make attendance by the average citizen virtually impossible, and records of previous meetings frustratingly difficult to obtain. . . . READ MORE 


MEMORIAL FOR SEA CLIFF RESIDENT AND RENOWNED PHOTOGRAPHER ARTHUR LEIPZIG TO BE HELD ON JANUARY 10

A memorial service for Sea Cliff resident and renowned photographer Arthur Leipzig will be held at the Hillwood Recital Center at the Tilles Center for Performing Arts on the LIU - C.W. Post campus in Brookville on January 10 at 1 pm.  Mr. Leipzig, who is perhaps best known for his photographs of ordinary people enjoying life in New York City during the 1940s, 50s and 60s, and who taught as an art professor at CW Post for more than two decades, passed away last month at the age of 96.  Click here for the obituary that appeared in the New York Times on December 5.

JOIN SEA CLIFF BOY SCOUT TROOP 43 

Sea Cliff Boy Scout Troop 43 had an amazing turnout on Friday December 19th at our Holiday Party!
Thanks to the efforts of Mrs.Joan Aebly & Mrs Liz Antinori who organized the night we had great food and drinks, as well as the largest turnout ever!!  The highlight of the night was our “Best Dessert” contest!  Three girls did the judging and the winner was our very own John Channell with the best tasting Brownies!!!
Any boys interested in joining, our troop meets every Monday Sept thru June 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.  St. Luke’s Episcopal Church,153 Glen Avenue, Sea Cliff, NY.  Our troop is very active going on monthly camping trips all year round.  Check out our website for more information: CLICK HERE

Bundled with black garbage bags filled with toys, the North Shore Key Club and North Shore Chamber Orchestra made an exciting visit to Cohen Children’s Hospital prior to winter break for North Shore’s 27thAnnual Toy Drive. The visit is a tradition at the North Shore Schools which is made possible by Dr. Rob Gerver and Mrs. Lisa Polito.  READ MORE

SEA CLIFF AVENUE SEWER LINE CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN THIS MONTH

January 6, 2014 -- With funding fully secured, a bid accepted and the agreement with the contractor signed, construction on the Sea Cliff Avenue sewer line will begin within the next two weeks, Mayor Bruce Kennedy and Village Administrator John Mirando said at Monday night's Village Board Conference.  The line will extend from Main Avenue to Prospect and  eventually link to the only existing line in the Village which runs along the Boulevard past Sea Cliff Beach and the Yacht Club and on to the Nassau County treatment plant in Glen Cove.  READ MORE


JUST SIXTIES BENEFIT CONCERT FOR ARTS ANGELS JANUARY 10

On Saturday night, January 10, 2015, at 7:30 PM, North Shore High School is having a benefit for the North Shore Arts Angels. The show, “Just Sixties…The Stories…The Songs!” is a narrated, interactive show featuring the country’s longest running Sixties tribute band, Just Sixties, which was founded by North Shore High School math teacher Dr. Rob Gerver in 1982.  READ MORE

PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED SEA CLIFF TREE LAW ON MONDAY

The Sea Cliff Village Board of Trustees will be holding a public hearing this Monday evening regarding the proposed tree legislation that would greatly reform tree removal regulations in the village.  The meeting will be held at Village Hall and begin at 7 pm.  The trustees will most likely vote on the law at Monday's meeting. In December, students and faculty got a special treat when YouTube legend, Paul Andersen, was the exclusive guest speaker at North Shore High School. Mr. Anderson has been a teacher for over 19 years and was the 2011 Montana Teacher of the Year. He was also one of 4 finalists for National Teacher of the Year and met President Obama in the Oval Office. Mr. Andersen has made TED talks and is also the creator of the Bozeman science videos.  Read More

ACCLAIMED LUTENIST TO PERFORM AT GOLD COAST LIBRARY ON SUNDAY

On Sunday, January 11 at 1 pm, the Gold Coast Public Library proudly presents an afternoon recital of exquisite music by virtuoso lutenist Christopher Morrongiello.  A graduate of the Mannes College of Music and University of Oxford and a recipient of the prestigious British Marshall Scholarship, Dr. Morrongiello has been actively promoting the lute and its repertoire in concerts, recordings, and academic journals for more than twenty years.  He has performed for HRM Queen of England and was a prizewinner in the BBC Radio Two Young Musician of the Year Competition.  His recital will be played on an authentic gut-strung Renaissance lute.  During the performance he will give an account of this beautiful instrument’s fascinating history, cultural significance, and playing technique.  Do join us for what promises to be a splendid, memorable event!
