NORTH SHORE BOE TO BEGIN BUDGET REVIEW AT THURSDAY JANUARY 29 MEETING

On Thursday, January 29, the North Shore Board of Education will begin its line by line review of the the 2015-16 budget proposal. At the January 15 meeting, Schools Superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick presented a general overview of the  $97,851,848 spending plan - a 2.09% increase over the current year, with a proposed tax levy increase of 1.66%.

Sea Cliff, NY, January 15, 2015 - Revived after a decade-long hiatus, the North Shore Summer Theater Workshop is accepting applications from students in grades 7 through 12 for six weeks of intensive production-based instruction in all aspects of the dramatic arts.  The beloved program, which ran for 42 years before falling to budget cuts, was revived thanks to efforts of dedicated alumni, among them the district's most celebrated performers. WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK, SEA CLIFF DPW BATTLES FIRST MAJOR STORM OF 2015

January 27, 2015 -- Although never quite reaching official "blizzard" status in this area, Monday and Tuesday's snow storm dumped about a foot of snow on Sea Cliff and surrounding North Shore communities.  Working around the clock over a 24 hour period, nine members of the Sea Cliff Department of Public Works battled through the wind gusts and driving snow.  READ MORE

GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY MARKS BEGINNING OF CONSTRUCTION ON SEA CLIFF AVENUE SEWER LINE 

January 26, 2015 --Several Village, County, and State officials, gathered near the corner of Sea Cliff and Prospect Avenues this past Friday afternoon for a ground breaking ceremony marking the beginning of construction on the Sea Cliff Avenue sewer line. . . . Mayor Bruce Kennedy spoke briefly to those present.  "It is very exciting to get started on a project that has been talked about for a decade," he said.  READ MORE

SEA CLIFF-GLEN HEAD LIONS BENEFIT CONCERT RAISES FUNDS FOR LOCAL CHARITIES

More than a hundred people filled the Sea Cliff Fire House gathering hall this past Saturday evening for a benefit concert sponsored by the Sea Cliff - Glen Head Lions 
 Club.  The event, organized by Lion Shane Dommin working in conjunction with the Sea Cliff Fire Department, featured the Sea Cliff-based band, the Lazy Dogs, and headliners Reckless Abandon who performed a mix of classic rock covers and a few originals.  By the end of the evening, more than $1000 was raised, much of which will go towards supporting local charities such as Mutual Concerns, the Long Island Guide Dog Foundation, and Izote, as well as a scholarship fund for local high school students. ROAR!

SENIOR NIGHT SUCCESS FOR NORTH SHORE WRESTLERS

Friday, January 16 marked the annual "Senior Night" for the North Shore Wrestling Team as they took on their conference rivals from Lawrence in what was the last ever home match for the North Shore Seniors. This year the team consisted of 6 Senior members. Surprisingly, this is a much larger number than in recent years as the demands of the sport will generally cause many to drop out before their Senior season. As the great wrestler Dan Gable once said,"Once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy," and this year's Seniors all know that to be true. READ MORE

The High School held its second annual Acoustic Café last Friday night, featuring the talents of students, faculty, and alumnae performing music selections of their choice, as well as the work of photography students and baked goods provided by the Tri-M Honor Society (advisor, Ms. Polito). NORTH SHORE HOSTS 25 FRENCH STUDENTS AS PART OF BIENNIAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM

In December, North Shore High School hosted 25 students from St. Malo, France, as part of a biennial exchange program. While visiting at North Shore, the students made excursions to New York City to see all of the major sights, enjoyed a Broadway show, and attended an American high school. The students also took the opportunity to visit several North Shore High School French classes, assisting our students in classroom discussions and with their studies. French teacher Eric Lepetit said, “It was a wonderful way for our students to be exposed to native French speakers.” READ MORE.

PRIVATE / PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS TRANSPORTATION REQUESTS DEADLINE, DUE April 1, 2015

The North Shore School District would like to remind all parents and guardians of children attending private and parochial schools that transportation requests for the 2015-16 school year must be submitted in person at the Transportation Office by April 1, 2015 or sent by Certified Mail postmarked on or before April 1, 2015.  Failure to submit the transportation request form by the due date may result in your child being ineligible for district transportation for the 2015-16 school year.  READ MORE
