SEA CLIFF'S PROGRESSIVE DINNER -  A JAUNT FOR GREGARIOUS GASTRONOMES 

November 13, 2014 -- Nearly 200 residents participated in this year's Progressive Dinner organized by the Sea Cliff Civic Association.  The gregarious gastronomes made three stops on their jaunt through the village with the group apportioned more or less equally among four homes for appetizers, and then further separated into groups of six to ten as they moved on to the dinner course that was prepared and served by 19 different hosts.  READ MORE

GHGWBA BEGINS PREPARATIONS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON

November 8, 2014 --  A sure sign that the holiday shopping season has arrived, members of the Glen Head-Glenwood Business Association gathered this past Saturday at the Glen Head Community Center to repair and replace bulbs on dozens of snowflakes that will be hung from lamp-posts throughout the Glen Head-Glenwood business district through the start of the new year.  The group hopes to have the ornaments brightening darkened skies and spreading holiday cheer by Thanksgiving.  READ MORE

CHINA THEN AND NOW AT NASSAU COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART IN NOVEMBER

China Then and Now brings together exemplary Chinese works of art from the classical, early modern and contemporary periods. The exhibition explores three millennia of one of the world’s most important artistic traditions from the perspective of American collectors on Long Island, such as Childs and Frances Frick and Dr. Arthur M. Sackler. The exhibition opens at Nassau County Museum of Art on November 22, 2014 and remains on view through March 8, 2015.  READ MORE

SEA CLIFF HONORS VETERANS AT CLIFTON PARK CEREMONY

In front of the Clifton Park memorial to Sea Cliff residents who served in World War I, a conflict ended by an armistice signed on November 11, 1918, community members gathered exactly 97 years later to honor those who have put their lives on the line in service to our country in the armed forces. Sea Cliff resident and Commander of James F. Brengel American Legion Post #456, Phil Como presided over the ceremony.   READ MORE

BOY SCOUTS PAY TRIBUTE TO VETS AT GLENWOOD AMERICAN LEGION HALL

Cub Scout Pack 278 and Boy Scout Troop 43 honored veterans this past Tuesday, with a formal flag ceremony, at the Glenwood American Legion Hall on Glen Head Road.  After the ceremony the scouts headed inside the hall, where veterans spoke about their service and the meaning of Veterans Day.  


2nd CHILL OUT CELEBRATES SEA CLIFF'S MUSICIANS, ARTISTS AND BUSINESSES  

November 9, 2014 -- The weather was appropriately cold and brisk for the second annual “Chill Out in Sea Cliff” held this past Friday evening.  The celebration of the community’s local businesses, musicians, and artists, organized by Kathleen DiResta of the Sea Cliff Arts Council with support from Board Trustee Ed Lieberman, kicked off at 5:30 pm on the Village Green, with the opening act - local singer/guitarist Jason Liebman accompanied by percussionist Dan Roth - performing a half hour set of indie folk.   READ MORE

NORTH SHORE VIKING MASQUERS PRESENT THE MUSICAL RENT

The North Shore Viking Masquers present "Rent" the Pulitzer-prize winning rock musical set in New York City's lower east side in the 1990s.  An updated version of the opera "La Boheme,"  the musical tells the story of young artists struggling to survive at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Performances are Friday and Saturday, November 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m.with a matinee at 2 on Saturday.  READ MORE


NORTH BOARD OF EDUCATION TO MEET ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18 AT HIGH SCHOOL

Breaking the tradition of holding its meetings on Thursdays, the North Shore Board of Education will gather on Tuesday, November 18 at 7:30 PM, in the North Shore High School Library.  Among the discussion items on the Agenda are issues that have been raised over the past two months.    They include looking into the possibility of readjusting start times for schools, an issue that Trustee Sara Jones had asked back in September to be put on a future agenda; consideration of changing transportation distance limits for 7th and 8th graders to bring them in line with sixth graders, a suggestion that had been made by a member of the community at a board meeting in October; and, the results of a meeting among parents and district officials held recently to address safety issues after a spate of injuries among football players.    READ MORE

You can make a special one for a child living at the Ronald McDonald House! For your efforts, you will receive a community service certificate! POSITIONS OPEN FOR NS SCHOOLS LAC

The North Shore Board of Education is looking for members to join the Legislative Action Committee (LAC), the Citizen’s Advisory Committee of the Board for the purpose of serving as a liaison between the community and our Trustees regarding legislative matters that have a direct bearing on fiscal or educational aspects of the North Shore Central School District. 

If you are interested in becoming a member of LAC, please submit an application to the District Clerk, Betty Ciampi, byWednesday, November 25, 2014 to the Central Office (112 Franklin Avenue, Sea Cliff, New York, 11579). Applications can be picked up in the Central Office or online on the North Shore Schools website at www.northshoreschools.org (under the Board of Education/LAC section).
