SEA CLIFF VILLAGE SUES CITY OF GLEN COVE IN EFFORT TO BLOCK GARVIES POINT REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

PictureArtist's rendering of 11 story Garvies Point building as seen from Cliff Way
November 11, 2015 -- In an effort to stop the Glen Cove Creek redevelopment project known as Garvies Point from moving forward, the Village of Sea Cliff filed an article 78 lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the State of New York (Nassau County) late last week against the City of Glen Cove, the City’s Planning Board, the City Council, and the project’s developer Rexcorp-Glen Isle Partners LLC. . . .Among other allegations, the suit alleges breach of contract by the City for its  failure  to abide by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) it had agreed to with the Village 15 years ago that establishes procedures by which the Village would have a seat at the table in advising the City’s Industrial Development Agency (IDA) on Glen Cove Creek development proposals.  READ MORE

DESPITE BALMY WEATHER, SEA CLIFFIANS CHILL OUT

With balmy temperatures more typical of late May than early November, well over a hundred Sea Cliffians turned out at the John Burns Village Green for the third annual Chill Out in Sea Cliff. The musical line up was put together by local mustician and music instructor Frank Ferrara, who over the course of the evening performed with musicians of all ages, many of whom he had mentored, at the makeshift "stage" in front of the Library steps.   The brainchild of Village Trustee Ed Lieberman and sponsored by the Sea Cliff Arts Council, the event is a celebration of the community’s local businesses, musicians, and artists. This year, it took a bit of a political turn, as some residents held signs in protest of the Glen Cove Planning Board's recent approval of the amended Garvies Point Redevelopment Plan, providing a perfect backdrop for a News 12 report on the controversy.

A mummy in the music room? That’s what kids at Sea Cliff School saw on November 2 at the school’s secret reader event. Since the mummy couldn’t speak, he chose two fifth graders, Dylan Roth and Aidan Kiggins, to read If You’re A Monster and You Know It. The mummy “was acting things out and growling,” says Dylan. “Because the whole book was kind of a song, like ‘The Monster Hokey Pokey,’ he made me do a beat on the drums.”  READ MORE
