TOWN HALL MEETING ON JAN. 27 TO DISCUSS LOOSENING OF SEA CLIFF TREE REMOVAL REGULATIONS![]() Reposted on January 19 - On January 27th, the Sea Cliff Village Board will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting to discuss proposed revisions to the Village tree ordinance. The meeting is not a public hearing on draft legislation, but rather an opportunity for the community to offer its opinions on what is currently under consideration before such legislation is written. The proposed regulations, if adopted, would significantly loosen restrictions on tree removal in the Village. READ MORE
DINNER IS SERVED; WITH PERMIT, SWAN CLUB NOW OPERATING AS A FULL SERVICE RESTAURANT![]() January 16, 2013 -- The Swan Club, the catering hall located at the corner of Scudders Lane and Glenwood Road, is now able to operate as a full service restaurant. On Tuesday evening, a public hearing was held, and the Roslyn Harbor Village Board agreed to amend the 1992 covenant that had restricted the Swan Club's operations to catering.
The permit was issued with the conditions that the last seating for dinner would be no later than 10 pm, bar-only service would end at 10 pm, and that amplified music would not be permitted outdoors. READ MORE FEATURED BLOG![]() RELAY FOR LIFE KICK OFF RALLY AT NORTH SHORE HIGH SCHOOL FEBRUARY 12On Wednesday February 12th, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of North Shore will officially get underway in their goal to raise over $100,000 again this year! Those interested in participating in the event and learning more about Relay For Life are invited to gather at the North Shore High School cafeteria for a kickoff rally to launch the fundraising efforts for the year. The rally will feature speakers from the community who have benefitted from the funds raised at Relay and will honor cancer survivors. This also will be the first opportunity to register a team, learn fundraising tips and information about the event. BOE EXPRESSES UNCERTAINTY REGARDING POTENTIAL TAX SHIFT FROM GWL PLANT RAMP-DOWNJanuary 20, 2014 -- Despite receiving “oral assurances” from county officials in the Assessor’s and Executive’s Office that the decommissioning of the Glenwood Power Plant would not result in an enormous tax shift to homeowners and businesses for the 2014-15 school tax levy, School Board President Herman Berliner expressed "nervousness" at Thursday’s Board of Education meeting that, without a written assurance, the worst case scenario of a 15-19% spike in school taxes was still a possibility for next school year. The concerns dominated the comments following the initial draft budget presentation given by Schools Superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick and came up in questioning from the audience. READ MORE

SEA CLIFF ARTIST DAVID JACOBS' WORKS TO BE EXHIBITED AT HOFSTRA MUSEUM![]() The Hoftsra University Museum is hosting an opening reception for Sea Cliff artist David Jacobs' exhibition "Sight and Sound" on Saturday, February 8 from 2-4 pm.
This singular exhibition created by Karen T. Albert, Associate Director of Exhibitions and Collections for the Hofstra University Museum, highlights selected works from the prolific career of the contemporary artist David Jacobs. Mulitple aspects of his artisitc directions and sensibilities are conveyed through the sculpture on view, which date from 1959-1987. Featured is his Sound Columns Enviornment, part of his famous Wah Wah series, works that exemplify his use of nontraditional materials to create a dynamic aesthetic. These large-scale sculptures use principles of physics and engineering to create sound using air. The artist asks viewers to actively participate with his works by immersing themselves in the sensory experiences he creates.
