GLEN HEAD WELCOMES HOLIDAY SEASON WITH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING

December 4, 2013 -- The frigid drizzle did not dampen the holiday spirit as hundreds celebrated the arrival of "the most wonderful time of the year" at the Glen Head Rotary Club's annual Christmas Tree Lighting this past Tuesday evening.  Visitors filing into the cordoned off area in Station Plaza in Glen Head were greeted with the festive sounds of  holiday music performed by the North Shore High School Brass Ensemble, under the direction of band director David Soto, who no matter what the season, always seems to exude holiday cheer.  As children enjoyed their hot chocolate topped with both marshmallows and a dollop of whipped cream, the three story evergreen where School Street meets Station plaza became all aglow, and soon after, sirens sounded announcing the arrival of Santa and his helper Cupcake, with transportation courtesy of the Glenwood Fire Company.  The Gold Coast Library also got into the spirt, welcoming children into the annex to make Christmas tree ornaments before the lighting, and afterwards to the enjoy a holiday film.  This is the 26th year that the Rotary Club has sponsored the event
