Those are not elves that tie the wreaths that bring cheer to Sea Cliff streets during the holiday season - it's the Sea Cliff Beautification Committee!  Join the group this Tuesday December 1st at the Department of Public Works Garage for its annual wreath-tying party.  Bask in the warmth of the season listening to carols, enjoying holiday sweets and beverages and preparing the boughs of evergreen that will soon hang from  lamp posts throughout the village business districts - along Roslyn and Sea Cliff Avenues, as well as on Glen Cove Avenue from 8th  all the way to the Middle School. The fun begins at 10 am!

THE SC CIVIC ASSOCIATION'S SCROOGE STROLL ON SUNDAY DECEMBER 6

On Sunday December 6, visit Scrooge and Marley Private Bankers and Money Lenders, the home of Bob Crachet and Tiny Tim, and of course Fezziwig's Warehouse, among other sites from A Christmas Carol, in The Scrooge Stroll, a "moving" reenactment of Charles Dickens' classic 1843 holiday ghost story.  Sponsored by the Sea Cliff Civic Association, the walk begins at the Sea Cliff Centennial Garden (across from the Children's Library) at 2 pm.

SEA CLIFF CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING  - SUNDAY DECEMBER 6

Join the hundreds of holiday season merrymakers who will no doubt pack the John Burns Village Green on the evening of Sunday December 6 for Sea Cliff's annual Christmas Tree Lighting.  Get into the spirit singing carols, listening to a reading of the Christmas story, sipping hot chocolate, eating cookies, and meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus.  The festivities begin at 5:30 pm.

This Tuesday December 1, for the 27th consequtive year, the Glen Head Rotary Club will be sponsoring a Christmas Tree Lighting at Station Plaza in Glen Head.  Welcome in the season with Santa and his helper Cupcake, while enjoying holiday classics performed by the North Shore High School Brass Ensemble and sippoing hot chocolate.  The Gold Coast Library will once again spread cheer hosting at its annex a craft workshop at which children will learn how to make Snow Globe Greeting Cards and a screening of the movie Home Alone.   The Craft workshop runs from 4:30 to 8:30 pm, and the movie from 6:45 to 8:30.  The tree lighting will be at 5:30 pm.  

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR AT OUR LADY OF KAZAN THIS SATURDAY DECEMBER 5

Bazaar at the Church of Our Lady of Kazan
Russian food, pastries, Russian gift items, jewelry… They will all be at the annual Christmas bazaar at the Church of Our Lady of Kazan in Sea Cliff. The bazaar will take place on Saturday, December 5th from noon to 4 p.m. in the parish hall of the Church of Our Lady of Kazan. GRAND MENORAH LIGHTING AND "DREIDEL INFLATABLE" ON SUNDAY DEC. 6 AT GLEN COVE VILLAGE SQUARE

The annual Grand Chanukah Menorah at the Glen Cove village Square - School & Glen St. will be lighted this year on Sunday, Dec. 6th at 4:30 pm. ​ Join the Mayor and other dignitaries as we light the first candle of the Chanukah festival.
 This year the  lighting has an added significance. The message of light over darkness and good over evil has never resonated more since the recent horrific terror attacks. There will be lively music, traditional ‘sufganiyot’, doughnuts, prizes for the kids along with Chanukah Gelt &  dreidels. The “dreidel inflatable” will give the kids a chance to bounce around in a full size dreidle moon bounce. 
The children will have an opportunity to make a Chanukah craft. It will be a special evening for the entire family.  (Article submitted by Rabbi Mendy Heber)

SEA CLIFF HANUKKAH HAPPENING ON THURSDAY DECEMBER 10

Come out to the Sea Cliff Firehouse on Thursday December 10 for Hanukkah Happening to enjoy good company and celebrate the holiday's traditions.  Spin dreidels, make crafts, and decorate cookies while snacking on latkes and chocolate gelt.  Later in the evening, celebrants will mark the fifth night of the Festival of Lights with the lighting of menorahs.

November 22, 2015 -- Wine and pizza enthusiasts packed the Village Wine Merchant on Sea Cliff Avenue on Tuesday November 17 for the first ever Sea Cliff Pizza Taste-off.  With bragging rights on the line, local pizzeria's Il Villagio, Taormina, Tre Sorelle, and Villa Meci each bravely entered their Grandma's style and plain Neopolitian pies into the contest in which nearly five dozen votes were cast.  READ MORE

SCO FAMILY OF SERVICES THANKS SC FIRE DEPARTMENT

McMahon Children’s Center (RJMCC) of the SCO Family of Services, present Sea Cliff Assistant Chiefs Mark Vitale and Mike Hallquest with a picture and plaque of gratitude for the Department's support.  Among other efforts, that support includes a fire prevention workshop and a Santa Run each holiday season.   Robert J. McMahon Children’s Center (RJMCC) of the SCO Family of Services, located at Park and Downing Avenues(formerly known as St. Christopher Ottile) is a Residential Treatment Center providing 24-hour nursing care, social services and a variety of therapies to children and adolescents with developmental disabilities. HUNDREDS WORK UP APPETITE RACING IN NS BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB TURKEY TROT 

November 27, 2015 -- Now a Thanksgiving tradition that seems to grow bigger each year, nearly 300 runners of all ages turned out for the North Shore Boys and Girls Club Turkey Trot and Fun Run this past Thursday morning.   The five kilometer race began on Glen Head Road in front of Holiday Farms and took trotters through the streets of the hamlet past the elementary school and then northward into the hilly Promenade neighborhood, and eventually back to the Community Center where they were greeted by cheering family and friends at the finish line.  The top runner with a winning time of 17:15 was Jessica Donohue, a junior at Albany and a 2013 graduate of North Shore High School.  14 year old Evan Brady came in 40 seconds later to lead the men's division.    Tommy Sebetic a fourth-grader at Sea Cliff School crossed the finish line first in the half-mile fun run. The event was sponsored by the North Shore Boys and Girls Club and organized by High School Track and Field coaches Neil Levy and Ed Corona. 

TOTS TRACK TURKEYS AT CIVIC ASSOCIATION'S HEADLESS PARK HUNT

Dozens of tots and their families turned out to track turkeys at the Sea Cliff Civic Association's  third annual Headless Park Turkey Hunt last Sunday afternoon.  Now rivaling Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and Lucky the Leprechaun as the most exalted holiday VIP, the Great Turkey, the plucky Poobah of Poultry himself, undaunted by the park's ominous nickname, once again made a grand appearance.

MAXWELL PARRISH EXHIBITION OPENS AT NASSAU MUSEUM; FEATURES WORKS OF GIANT OF ILLUSTRATION'S GOLDEN AGE 

November 22, 2015 -- The Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor hosted an opening reception on Friday, November 20 for  Maxfield Parrish: Paintings and Prints from the National Museum of American Illustration, an exhibition of works by one of the greats of the Golden Age of Illustration.   On view through the end of February, the pieces are drawn from the National Museum of American Illustration, Newport, Rhode Island, and curated by its co-founders Judy and Laurence S. Cutler.  The exhibition embodies the long career and extraordinary accomplishments of Mr. Parrish (1870-1966), displaying the artist’s lush coloristic effect with amazing detail and includes original artworks as well as a large collection of vintage prints. ​In a concert at Nassau County Museum of Art on Saturday, December 19 at 3 p.m., Gemini Journey—Diane Block on violin and Terry Batts on cello—explore music of the early 20th century, a creatively varied and fertile period that was also the time of the Golden Age of Illustration and the long career of Maxfield Parrish, whose works are presently on view at the Museum.The Early 20th Century: A Mélange of Musical Landscapes demonstrates how the excesses of the late Romantic period gave way to leaner, radical new movements including modernism, nationalism, neoclassicism and jazz. Gemini Journey has frequently performed at Manhattan and Long Island venues and has delighted audiences in their previous appearances at the Museum.  READ MORE

NORTH SHORE THANKSGIVING BASKET PROJECT

 This year’s Thanksgiving Basket Project, coordinated by the Community Service Office and the Interact Club, showed the generosity and good will of the North Shore High School community.  Many classes and clubs came together to create baskets containing all the fixings for a complete Thanksgiving meal, accompanied by a gift card to a local grocery store so that recipients can purchase the perishable items needed.  Members of the interact club participated in distribution of some of the baskets to families in Glen Cove, and baskets were also given to Sea Cliff Mutual Concerns.

NS MIDDLE SCHOOL'S E3 DAY ENCOURAGES KIDS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Acting on its motto, "Everyone Matters, Everyone Cares, Everyone Learns," North Shore Middle School held it annual E3 Day on Tuesday, a Thanksgiving week tradition that promotes community service and civic mindedness.

During the day-long event, students participate in one of more than a dozen service opportunities, from singing and performing at the Glen Cove Senior Center, to raking leaves at a local park, to raising funds for cancer research in a Dance-a-Thon.
