STILL JAMMING AFTER 38 YEARS, ST. LUKES BAZAAR IS A TRADITION TO RELISH

November 5, 2014 -- Signaling the coming of the holiday season, St. Luke's Church in Sea Cliff hosted its annual fall bazaar this past Saturday afternoon.  The centerpiece of the 38 year-old Sea Cliff tradition, is the "Country Kitchen," a booth manned by a fellowship of volunteers that begins preparations for the autumn fair in early summer, gathering each Wednesday for several months jamming and jarring in the church kitchen.  READ MORE

The Annual Community Blood Drive will take place on Monday, November 10th in the North Shore High School Auxiliary Gym. This is open to all faculty, staff and students who qualify as blood donors. SEA CLIFF FARMERS MARKET TO BE OPEN FOR CHILL OUT

While the Sea Cliff Farmers Market Saturday sale is on hiatus until early June, the Market will set up for Chill Out in Sea Cliff on the evening of November 7th. "We will have local, organic veggies, raw honey, fresh bread and some gluten free goodies, too!" Amy Peters said. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Mutual Concerns.  


CHINA THEN AND NOW AT NASSAU COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART IN NOVEMBER

China Then and Now brings together exemplary Chinese works of art from the classical, early modern and contemporary periods. The exhibition explores three millennia of one of the world’s most important artistic traditions from the perspective of American collectors on Long Island, such as Childs and Frances Frick and Dr. Arthur M. Sackler. The exhibition opens at Nassau County Museum of Art on November 22, 2014 and remains on view through March 8, 2015.  READ MORE

November 5, 2014 -- Incumbents swept local legislative races this Tuesday, with Senator Carl Marcellino being re-elected to his 10th full 2-year term in the New York State Senate, and voters returning to the the Assembly the three incumbents representing the area - Charles Lavine (D - Glen Cove), Michael Montesano (R - Glen Head), and Edward Ra (R - Franklin Square).  Jack Martins (R-Mineola), who represents Roslyn Harbor and areas of Glenwood Landing  once again prevailed in a Senate district that leans Democratic, while Congressman Steve Israel was elected to his 8th 2-year term in the House of Representatives. READ MORE . . . 


SEA CLIFF VETERANS DAY OBSERVANCE AT THE 11TH HOUR OF THE 11TH DAY OF THE 11TH MONTH

In tribute to the men and women who have put their lives on the line in service to our country in the armed forces, a Veterans Day Observance will be held at the Memorial Rock in Clifton Park in Sea Cliff on Tuesday, November 11  at 11 am.  The plaque there honors those Sea Cliff residents who served during the First World War, which ended at 11 am on November 11, 1918.

November 3 kicked off this year’s book fair at Sea Cliff Elementary School. The book fair, which raises money to pay for author visits at the school, will be open through Friday, November 7. This year’s theme, Sir Readalot’s Castle, focuses on the medieval times. Book fair co-chairs Heather Cullen and Katie Kenny were happy that the school principal, Chris Zublionis, volunteered to be the “secret reader” for the book fair family night.  READ MORE

NORTHWINDS SALUTES VETERANS

On Sunday November 2 the Northwinds Symphonic Band conducted by Helen P Bauer performed a Veteran's Day tribute -America' Heroes: Honoring Those Who Keep Us Safe at the North Shore High School Theater.  The concert featured an assortment of patriotic numbers, including "The Stars and Stripes Forever" and God Bless America, a medley of the songs of the armed services, and the solemn "Taps."

POSITIONS OPEN FOR NS SCHOOLS LAC

The North Shore Board of Education is looking for members to join the Legislative Action Committee (LAC), the Citizen’s Advisory Committee of the Board for the purpose of serving as a liaison between the community and our Trustees regarding legislative matters that have a direct bearing on fiscal or educational aspects of the North Shore Central School District. 

If you are interested in becoming a member of LAC, please submit an application to the District Clerk, Betty Ciampi, byWednesday, November 25, 2014 to the Central Office (112 Franklin Avenue, Sea Cliff, New York, 11579). Applications can be picked up in the Central Office or online on the North Shore Schools website at www.northshoreschools.org (under the Board of Education/LAC section).
