CELEBRATION OF CUBAN CULTURE KICKS OFF NSHS CUBA MUSIC TOUR

October 30, 2015 -- North Shore students, parents and grandparents celebrated Cuban culture last Saturday night at a party to kick off fundraising for the upcoming music performance tour of Cuba by high school band, orchestra and chorus students.   The February tour will be one of the first by US students since the thaw in diplomatic relations with Cuba, according to Michael Kerschner, NSHS choral director who is coordinating the tour with his colleagues David Soto, band director, and Jason Domingo, orchestra director.  READ MORE


SC CIVIC ASSOCIATION'S PROGRESSIVE DINNER - FOR THOSE WHO LIVE TO EAT 

The Sea Cliff Civic Association's Progressive Dinner, the always popular annual fall event that introduces participants to both fine food and fine people as they make three stops on their jaunt through the village, attracted nearly 200 participants last weekend.   The group was apportioned more or less equally among four homes for appetizers, and then further separated into groups of six to ten as they moved on to the dinner course that was prepared and served by 22 different hosts.  The dinner parties then combined for dessert and drinks at the Sea Cliff Yacht Club. . . SEA CLIFF CELEBRATES HALLOWEEN

This past Halloween Eve, Sea Cliff celebrated All Hallow's Eve as it has in past years  with the Sea Cliff School Parade and a separate parade for younger children sponsored by the Sea Cliff Children's Library.  On Friday Night, the Sea Cliff Makeshop and the Sea Cliff Arts Council hosted the "Spooky Pumpkin Walk" at Spooky Park.  

CIVIC ASSOCIATION'S CIDER SOCIAL DRAWS MANY TO CENTRAL PARK

October 29, 2015 -- The Sea Cliff Civic Association hosted a "Cider Social" under a canopy of fall foliage at beautiful Central Park last Sunday Afternoon. Well over 100 guests enjoyed cookies, snacks, crafts, and of course cider, at the autumn celebration that now has been held annually for about a dozen years.

GOOD NEWS FOR RESIDENTIAL TAXPAYERS DESPITE ADJUSTMENT IN BASE PROPORTIONS

​October 29, 2015 -- The removal of several LIPA properties within the North Shore School District from tax rolls and the resulting increase in the proportion of the school tax levy paid by class 1 homeowners may have complicated the revenue side of the school budget a bit, but will not negatively impact, and it appears will even benefit, residential taxpayers this year, according to figures obtained by Northwordnews from the School District.  READ MORE 

NS BOARD BEGINS DISCUSSING PROCESS FOR SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH

POTPOURRI OF PUPS AND PUPPETS PROUDLY PERAMBULATE AT PET PARADE

November 1, 2015 -- This past Saturday morning, a procession of pets, puppets, and pedestrians made its way along Sea Cliff Avenue from Memorial Park to Clifton Park in a proud pageant of color, costumes, and creativity. Organized by residents Karen Kessler and JoAnne Gray, and sponsored by the Sea Cliff Civic Association, it was the third time the Parade has been held in the past four years.   Awards and gift certificates to Petco were given for "Most Original Costume", "Looks Most Like the Owner," "Most Creative Costume," "Largest Pet," and "Smallest Pet."​ (Headline Credit - Dan DiPietro)

GUARDIAN ANGEL HELPING WOMEN IN CRISIS

With a mission "to meet the needs of women who have lost control of their lives,who are struggling to raise their children, or who have been left shipwrecked by economic or marital hardship,” the Guardian Angel Family Crisis Center, located at 239 Glen Cove Avenue in Sea Cliff, since 2009 has provided a variety of services to women in crisis.  It’s “women helping other women,” says founder and president Barbara Costello.   READ MORE

This Tuesday is Election Day. It’s nothing as glamorous or controversial as selecting our next president, but in certain ways it is more important.  Local elections affect our parks and roads, our property taxes, and other aspects of our quality of life on a local level.

Media reports have detailed indictments, lawsuits, and crises plaguing our town.  As Supervisor Venditto has responded to accusations, Town leadership has been diverted in ways that affect our community negatively. READ MORE

VILLAGE WINE MERCHANT TO HOST PIZZA COMPETITION ON NOV. 17

The Village Wine Merchant at 252 Sea Cliff Avenue will be hosting a "Sea Cliff's Favorite Pizza Competition" on Tuesday Nov 17 from 6-8pm. Four local pizzerias have agreed to participate  - Il Vilaggio, Taormina, Tre Sorelle, and Villa Meci. In addition to the sampling and voting for the top pie, customers will also have the opportunity to sample wines that go well with pizza. The winner gets bragging rights in Sea Cliff!

CHILL OUT ON NOVEMBER 6

The Sea Cliff Arts Council proudly presents its third annual "Chill Out in Sea Cliff" on Friday, November 6th, 2015. Everyone is invited to attend this Sea Cliff community event to celebrate and promote our local businesses, musicians, and artists. The evening commences at 6 p.m. on the Village Green (in front of Sea Cliff Library) with music by Frank Ferrara and Friends. Some shops will be open late. Stop by the pubs and restaurants of Sea Cliff with musical entertainment starting at 8:30 pm. We will be collecting food donations on the Village Green, on behalf of Mutual Concerns of Sea Cliff. It will be a great night out on the town!
