OLD BROOKVILLE BOARD PASSES LAW EXTENDING TERMS OF OFFICE FOR TRUSTEES AND MAYOR

Picture
At Monday’s Old Brookville Village Board meeting, the Trustees unanimously voted to extend the terms of office for the positions of Trustee and Mayor from two to four years. In
addition, the law establishes biennial elections in odd-numbered years, a change from the current annual election cycle.
The lengthening of the terms will not affect any current office holder until after an election under the new law takes place.
One resident asked, “Why the change?  What makes this necessary?”  READ MORE

September 24, 2013 - Art students from North Shore High School participated in the Memory Project, a nation-wide initiative in which advanced high school art students create original portraits for children  living in orphanages around the world. The purpose of this meaningful project is to provide these children with a special memory of their youth, honoring their heritage and identity which helps them build a positive self-image. The assignment also provides an opportunity for young Americans to open their hearts to children who have endured many hardships and promote the value of sharing kindness with others.  READ MORE

NORTH SHORE SCHOOL DISTRICT CELEBRATES HOMECOMING 2013

September 29 -- Under sunny skies and with perfect early fall temperatures, maroon and white, and horned Viking helmets abounded as the North Shore School District celebrated its annual Homecoming on Saturday.  The day  kicked off at 10 am with a parade that made its way along a  mile long route from Glenwood Landing School to the High School.  As  the marchers arrived, many went off to the carnival, while others watched the Varsity Field Hockey team dominate Seaford, the Vikings of the south shore, with a 5-0 win. READ MORE

VIKINGS FIELD HOCKEY CELEBRATES HOMECOMING WITH 5-0 WIN OVER SEAFORD

Picture
September 29 -- The North Shore Field Hockey team defeated the south shore Vikings of Seaford in an impressive 5-0 win on homecoming Saturday.  Although the North Shore Vikings dominated throughout the game, with the play rarely making its way into the defensive zone, they only led by one at half-time - with a goal by Midfielder Carly Comitino. During the second half however, North Shore unleashed four goals - two by Maddie Conklin, and one each by Sarah Checca and Danielle Inzerillo.

DESPITE A VALIANT EFFORT, VIKINGS FALL A BIT SHORT AGAINST VS NORTH

Picture
September 29 -- The North Shore Football Vikings fell to a 1-2 record with a 15-7 loss to the Valley Stream North Spartans this past Saturday afternoon.  After falling behind 13-0 in the first half, North Shore cut the deficit to six points with 6:34 left in the third quarter when running back Anthony Magliocco ran 36 yards up the right side for a  touchdown and then kicked the subsequent extra point. The Vikings had the opportunity to pull ahead late in the third quarter when they drove to the Spartan's six yard line, only to turn the ball over when the Valley Stream defensive back made a spectacular interception in the right corner of the end zone, barely keeping his toes in play.  The Spartans added two points with a safety with about five minutes left in the game.

It was a frustrating loss for the Vikings both offensively and defensively.  In the first half, the Spartans converted on a few third and longs - most notably, a 34 yard pass play that set up their second touchdown of the game. As for the Viking offense, they effectively moved the ball against Valley Stream only to turn the ball over three times in their opponent's red zone - at the 15, 9, and 6 yard lines.
