ASSEMBLYMAN LAVINE SAYS NYS DEC READY TO ASSIST SEA CLIFF AFTER MUDSLIDE![]() May 3, 2014 -- Assemblyman Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) visited the Sea Cliff site on Thursday and Friday where a home was evacuated after a mudslide on Bay Avenue near 16th Avenue caused a retaining wall to collapse and the backyard disappeared over a hillside above Hempstead Harbor.
Assemblyman Lavine said he has spoken to the Regional Director of the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the department is ready, willing and able to assist in any way needed. “I am extremely thankful that there were no injuries as a result of this mudslide,” said Assemblyman Lavine. “I have reached out to DEC to ensure that this dangerous situation is being closely monitored to make sure no further damage occurs to either this property or others around it.” Three people were evacuated from the home where the mudslide occurred.
