AMY BEYER RECEIVES OUTSTANDING SCHOO BOARD MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Picture
Congratulations go out to Mrs. Amy Beyer, a North Shore School District trustee for 12 years, who was the recipient of the New York State Association of School Business Officials (NYSASBO) Outstanding School Board Member of the Year Award sponsored by R.S. Abrams & Co., LLP. This prestigious recognition is awarded to a school board member who has demonstrated support and appreciation for the role of the school business official and their contributions to a well-run school district. Additionally, the North Shore School District will receive a donation of $1,000 for use towards the purchase of equipment or a school scholarship, etc.

Ms. Olivia Buatsi, Assistant Superintendent for Business, stated, “When Amy speaks, people listen! Amy’s voice and demeanor, though calm, are shrouded in steel.” She added, “Even on a very impressive board, like the North Shore School District Board of Education, Amy Beyer stands out for her quality of service, thoughtfulness, total commitment to the education of all students, patience, hard work, impressive knowledge base with institutional memory, and willingness to always do what needs to be done.”

Amy Beyer served on the North Shore Board of Education from 2002 to 2014; for three of those years she served as president. She also worked diligently on various board sub-committees including the construction, legislative action, and policy committees. Mrs. Beyer was instrumental in forming a working group of trustees from multiple neighboring school districts, together with County Executive Tom Suozzi, to talk about state aid, cooperative RFPs and purchasing, mandate relief, and information sharing between districts. In addition, she was the board designated IEP reviewer and a chief advocate for all special needs children in the district. She also supported the district administration’s initiative to deploy iPads to all students in grades 6-12 and promoted the implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, Diploma Programme (DP), at North Shore High School beginning this September 2015.

Mrs. Buatsi concluded by saying, “Amy is a true leader and has made a positive difference in the lives of all of the students in the district.” Many thanks to Amy Beyer for her many years of service to the North Shore School District and congratulations for winning the prestigious Outstanding School Board Member of the Year Award.
