WILLIAMSBURG SALSA ORCHESTRA HEATS UP GLEN COVE DOWNTOWN SOUNDS AUGUST 19
Glen Cove, New York – August 6, 2016 – The classical salsa form will be presented with modern flavor when the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra performs during week eight of the 2016 Downtown Sounds Concert Series at Glen Cove Village Square on August 19 at 7:30 pm. The WSO is a thrilling 11-piece salsa group that plays dynamic “dura” arrangements of indie rock tunes with a new-wave vibrant aesthetic.
Led by percussionist/arranger Gianni Mano and fronted by Argentinian chanteuse Solange Prat, the WSO’s explosive arrangements have established the band as a groundbreaking force in the New York underground music scene. What is more, the band’s completely new approach to the traditional salsa genre has garnered international acclaim. Indeed, the band’s debut album has been recognized by writers and deejays throughout the world as a revolutionary work that has reset the boundaries of the art form by bringing new-wave salsa to highly-diversified audiences. The WSO’s ever-evolving set list, which includes songs by Arcade Fire, The Black Keys and The White Stripes, delights both classic salsa lovers and those who are new to the genre. As a result, the group is quickly becoming one of the most popular bands in the New York Metropolitan Area. For example, they have been featured at TEDx Bushwick, New Year’s Eve 2014 at The Kennedy Center, on the Latin Hot List in Rolling Stone Magazine and on the nationally-syndicated LatiNation TV show on Fox. Their recent shows include high-energy performances at the Blue Note Jazz Festival at B.B. King’s 42nd Street, The Brooklyn Bowl, Sounds of Brazil and the Tribeca Performing Arts Center. Downtown Sounds is delighted that they will be adding the Glen Cove Village Square to that list. Presenting sponsors for Downtown Sounds 2016 are the City of Glen Cove, Bethpage Federal Credit Union and Garvies Point.
