October 5, 2014 --With more than 200 residents and business owners from Glen Cove and nearby communities in attendance, the Glen Cove City Council and Planning Board held a joint meeting this past Tuesday evening at which stakeholders were given an opportunity to weigh in on The Villa Project - a 194 unit condominium complex that the Queens-based Livingston Development Company has proposed to build on a 4 acre site it owns on the east side of Glen Cove Avenue just south of the Glen Cove Boys and Girls Club.  READ MORE


NORTH SHORE SCHOOL BOARD DIVIDED OVER CHANGING LAC BYLAWS

October 7, 2014 -- A divided North Shore Board of Education cast rare split votes this past Thursday evening over changing the bylaws of the district's Legislative Action Committee (LAC). . . . Dr.  Berliner opened the discussion at Thursday's meeting proposing that the committee's bylaws be revised to expand LAC’s membership from nine to eleven and to create a Vice Chairperson position.  READ MORE

PUMPKIN PATCH FUNDRAISER SUPPORTS NAVAJO NATION

October 4 -- For the 11th consecutive year, the United Methodist Church of Sea Cliff is holding its Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser.  On Thursday, volunteers unloaded 3,000 pumpkins and spread them about the church's lawn, creating a spectacular field of orange at the corner of Downing and Carpenter Avenues in Sea Cliff.  The pumpkins were grown at the Navajo reservation in New Mexico, and proceeds from the sale will go back to the Navajo nation.  READ MORE

Reposted, October 8 (original post -September 30, 2014) -- The Sea Cliff Village Board  has drafted a new Tree Ordinance that residents will have the opportunity to weigh in on at the next Board Meeting on October 14 and again at a public hearing in November.   The new regulations, if adopted, would significantly loosen restrictions on tree removal in the Village. October 6, 2014 -- Pursuing its mission to  "serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding" the Sea Cliff-Glen Head Lions Club held its 14th annual Fall Classic this past Thursday, honoring those who serve and the many organizations and causes that the service organization supports.  The event began with a round of golf at the Glen Cove Golf Course and then concluded with drinks, dinner and entertainment by the Lazy Dogs at Cedar Creek in Glen Cove.  READ MORE

PRE-HOLIDAY COCKTAIL PARTY RAISES FUNDS TO FEED NEEDY FAMILIES

October 6, 2014 -- More than 170 guests filled the American Legion Hall in Glen Head this past Friday evening for the 2014 Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Drive.  Organized by Glen Head resident Ken Kraft, proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards creating and delivering food baskets to needy families and seniors during the holiday season.    "I started the food drive parties in 2004 for the purpose of bringing our local residents into the Legion to see what we were trying to do for the North Shore community," Mr. Kraft said.  READ MORE

OPERA SOPRANO AND NORTH SHORE CHOIR TO PERFORM FOR BENEFIT OF WINTHROP HOSPITAL'S CANCER CENTER FOR KIDS

 Classical soprano Luisa Fernanda Munster will perform an enchanting program of classical and contemporary choral music along with the "North Shore Nightingales" Girls Choir on Saturday October 25 at 7 pm at the New Apostolic Church in Woodbury.  This concert will benefit the "Cancer Center for Kids" of Winthrop University Hospital and support the psychosocial program they provide to kids with cancer. READ MORE

North Shore Schools, Glen Head, NY - Principal, Albert Cousins of North Shore High School recently announced that 14 students have been named Commended Students in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.
