ARCHITECT PRESENTS POSSIBLE NEW GOLD COAST LIBRARY DESIGNS

Picture
September 14, 2015 -- This past Thursday, the Gold Coast Public Library hosted two public informational sessions that allowed community members to view and offer their thoughts regarding potential design concepts for a new library to be built at the Halms Industries site on Glen Head Road should the community, through a bond referendum to be held late this fall, direct the library board to obtain financing for the purchase of the property and construction of the new facility.  Russell Davidson, president of KD&G Architects, the firm that has been hired by the library to develop the initial concepts, led the meeting presenting three designs that were based on feedback offered by dozens of residents who attended two community input sessions this past spring.   Northwordnews attended this past Thursday's evening session.  READ MORE

MIRANDA BEST - DARK AND LIGHT AT THE SEA CLIFF LIBRARY THIS FALL

Picture
The Sea Cliff Arts Council will be hosting an opening reception for "Dark and Light," an exhibition of works by Sea Cliff artist Miranda Best.  Ms. Best, who has been an art teacher in Port Washington for the past 20 years, studied in the Vassar College Arts program where she earned a BA before heading off to Teachers College for an MA in Art Education, has been interested in creating paintings and prints inspired by the landscape.  Many of the images included in Dark and Light, she writes, "were created on-site or from sketches made on-site in plances nearby, including Old Westbury Gardens, the Nassau County Museum of Art and Cedarmere.  The play of light and shadow in the landscapes interests me the most."  The opening reception will be from 3 to 5 pm.  Dark and Light will be on exhibition through the end of October.
