GOLD COAST LIBRARY ENTERS INTO CONTRACT WITH HALM TO PURCHASE 5.3 ACRE GH PROPERTY FOR $5.7 MILLION

July 1, 2015 -- At a Special Meeting held at the library annex on Wednesday evening, the Gold Coast Public Library Board of Trustees announced that after several months of negotiations it had entered into a contract with the owner of Halm Industries of Glen Head to purchase the company's 5.3 acre property on Glen Head Road for $5.7 million. The purchase is contingent upon the outcome of a bond referendum to be held some time in the next few months. READ MORE

BRING YOUR CHILD TO A VILLAGE BOARD MEETING ON JULY 13

Young residents wait to address board at last year's meeting

In an effort to promote civic education by offering young people an opportunity to experience democracy first hand, the Sea Cliff Village Board is encouraging parents to bring their children to the July13 Village Board meeting. Initiated by Trustee Ed Lieberman last year, the "bring your child to a village board meeting night," has now become an annual event. Children, escorted by a parent, are welcomed and encouraged to ask questions during the public comment portion of the meeting. The meeting will begin at 7 pm.

NS BOE ANNUAL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING ON TUESDAY JULY 7

Board President Herman Berliner and Vice President Toni Labbate, at a Meet the Candidates forum in April, will be sworn in to new three year terms as Trustees on Tuesday night.

The North Shore Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 7:30 p.m., at North Shore High School in the Library. This is a Board of Education Organizational Meeting at which the trustees beginning their new terms will be sworn in and the board will choose its officers and make a variety of appointments. The agenda has not yet been released. All are welcome to attend

New Season with North Shore Pops Concert Band

On Sunday, July 5, Morgan Park Summer Music Festival opens its 56th season with Glen Cove’s own North Shore Pops Concert Band. The concert will begin at7:30 p.m. in Morgan Park and is free to the public.

In celebration of the nation’s birthday, North Shore Pops Concert Band presents Americana 2015, a program of upbeat band music reflecting the diversity of American culture. NSPCB, founded in Glen Cove nearly 30 years ago, has been delighting audiences on Long Island and New York throughout its history. The ensemble presents a wide-ranging repertory of proven crowd favorites – from Big Band sounds of Glen Miller, to the treasures of the Great American Songbook, and to patriotic tributes to the Stars and Stripes. On September 9, 2015, residents of the Gold Coast Public Library District (GCPLD) located in Glen Head, NY, who are eligible to vote in a general election will vote for as many as three candidates to fill three open seats on the Board of Trustees and to establish the Library budget for 2016. July 2, 2015 -- In celebration of the 239th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Sea Cliff Children's Library hosted a birthday bash for our nation on Thursday evening. The annual event, organized by Ann and Dan DiPietro, attracted dozens of children, their parents, and other residents, who, led by local musician/parents Joe Hughes and Roger Friedman, sang, and clapped to patriotic tunes and American standards such as You're a Grand Ol' Flag, Yankee Doodle, This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land, and the Star Spangled Banner. The birthday party concluded in traditional American fashion with the presentation of candlelit cup cakes and an enthusiastic singing of "Happy Birthday." (pictures above)
