STILL EVOLVING STILL PARTNERS CELEBRATES 2nd ANNIVERSARY ON SATURDAY

June 24, 2015 -- Still Partners in Sea Cliff is turning two years old  and to celebrate the occasion the gastropub/live music venue will host a Star Wars Costume party this Saturday June 27.  The first phase of the all day event will be from 2 - 4 pm, when the doors will be opened to kids for some Jedi themed fun with lots of give-aways.  Wear costumes!  At night, "DJ McLovin" will take the stage in the evening spinning some great dance music. SC CIVIC ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES ARRIVAL OF SUMMER WITH ICE CREAM SOCIAL

The Sea Cliff Civic Association celebrated the arrival of summer this past Wednesday with its annual Ice Cream Social.  Nearly 200 people of all ages excitedly turned out at Spooky Park for the Association's traditional serving of lemon and rainbow Italian ices scooped by four young volunteers - Katherine Hunt, Fiona Shonik, Sierra Hiner, and Julia Carroll.

North Shore Schools, June 2015 - The first annual Glenwood Landing Authors/Illustrators Night took place on June 3rd, 2015. Nineteen members of the Long Island Children's Writers group, including GWL Psychologist Jim Perez, sold and autographed their books for the students. In addition, the guest authors and illustrators were on hand to answer questions.  READ MORE 


SC CHILDREN'S LIBRARY'S STORY TIME AT SEA CLIFF BEACH

Dozens of children gathered on the sands of Sea Cliff Beach for the Children's Library's Storytime hour this past Wednesday morning.  Librarian Ann DiPietro read the classic picture book Strega Nona by Tomie de Paola.  Storytime at Sea Cliff Beach will continue every Wednesday morning at 10:30 am through August 19.

The 2015 MARGUERITE SUOZZI YOUNG PERORMER TALENT COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

June 20, 2015 --Morgan Park Summer Music Festival recently held its annual Young Performers Talent Competition at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall in Glen Cove.  Thirty-five extremely talented vocalists and instrumentalists aged 9 to 19, played and sang before five judges.  This year’s Competition Winner was 17-year old pianist Tim Cheung, a senior at Syosset High School.  Among the prestigious venues where he has performed are Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall and the Shanghai International School of Music.

On Sunday, July 5, Morgan Park Summer Music Festival opens its 56th season with Glen Cove’s own North Shore Pops Concert Band. The concert will begin at7:30 p.m. in Morgan Park and is free to the public.

In celebration of the nation’s birthday, North Shore Pops Concert Band presents Americana 2015, a program of upbeat band music reflecting the diversity of American culture. NSPCB, founded in Glen Cove nearly 30 years ago, has been delighting audiences on Long Island and New York throughout its history. The ensemble presents a wide-ranging repertory of proven crowd favorites – from Big Band sounds of Glen Miller, to the treasures of the Great American Songbook, and to patriotic tributes to the Stars and Stripes.  READ MORE

On September 9, 2015, residents of the Gold Coast Public Library District (GCPLD) located in Glen Head, NY, who are eligible to vote in a general election will vote for as many as three candidates to fill three open seats on the Board of Trustees and to establish the Library budget for 2016. There are (3) three year seats. Balloting will take place at the Gold Coast Public Library, 50 Railroad Avenue, Glen Head, between the hours of 9:00 am and 9:00 pm. READ MORE

The ceremony was led by Principal Albert Cousins with speakers including Superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick, Valedictorian Allison Black, Salutatorian Aidan Lewis, and North Shore Board of Education President Dr. Herman Berliner.

NS BOE DEBATES CHANGES TO LAC BYLAWS; RECOGNIZES RETIREES AND NEWLY TENURED TEACHERS

At its Thursday June 18 meeting, the North Shore Board of Education paid tribute to the district's past and future, recognizing the decades of contributions of those retiring (left) and granting tenure to those who are newer to the district and that have made it through their probationary period demonstrating great pedagogical promise (right).

At its Thursday June 18 meeting, The North Shore Board of Education rejected a request made by members of the District's Legislative Action Committee to amend the group's bylaws so as to close its meetings to the public and to change its name to the "Legislative Advisory Committee."  Currently, community members can attend the committee's meetings which take place one Thursday each month.  READ MORE

LARRY MARTONE OPENS THIS YEAR'S SEA CLIFF CIVIC ASSOCIATION'S SUNSET SERENADE SUMMER MUSIC SERIES

Larry Martone performed 60's and 70's folk and rock to kick off this summer's Sea Cliff Civic Association's Sunset Serenade music series.  The concerts, performed Thursdays from 7 to 9 pm at Memorial Park, will continue through the end of August.  The Lazy Dogs are on for next week.  Additionally, the Sea Cliff Beach Summer Sounds Concert series will begin on Friday, July 10 with Jenn Gerrity and PBJL/Tiberius performing. The Sea Cliff Farmer’s Market is back for the 2015 season at its new home at St. Luke’s Church! (On the corner of Glen Ave and Roslyn Ave.)  Opening day will be June 27th, and the market will contine each Saturday (except July 4) through the end of October, from  9 AM to 1 PM.  The Sea Cliff Farmers Market offers ALL organic produce from some very local farms - Old Westbury, Brookville and Oyster Bay! One of our famers is a Sea Cliff resident!

The Morgan Park Summer Music festival will kick off its 56th Season of Sunday concerts with a performance of "Americana" by the North Shore Pops Concert Band on July 5.
