PLAY BALL!  SEA CLIFF BASEBALL AND NORTH SHORE SOFTBALL SEASON OPENS WITH ANNUAL PARADE​

After an early morning mist, the skies cleared just in time for the start of the Sea Cliff Baseball and North Shore Softball Leagues' opening day parade that took the young players down Sea Cliff Avenue to Clifton Park, where John Canning emceed the festivities.  Resident Cathy Virgilio sang the Star Spangled Banner, Mayor Ed Lieberman threw out the ceremonial first pitch and the assembled players, parents, and coaches assembled belted out a stirring rendition of Take Me Out to the Ball Game.

NORTH SHORE SCHOOLS ARE HUNGRY TO HELP!

​This year, The North Shore HS Acoustic Café Club decided to start an initiative to help the Hungry for Music charity. Hungry for Music collects used musical instruments and puts them in the hands of kids who cannot afford them. This year, the Spring concerts in all five district schools will serve as Hungry for Music collection centers. Mr. Wankel and Dr. Gerver, along with the help of Jodie Larson and the Tri-M Music Honor Society, will coordinate these efforts. READ MORE

Spring is here! Really here. Snow is melting and flowers are popping up. We are finally looking like we can shake the hand of winter and move into a season of birds, flowers and sunny days. But as I look around I see all that and something else……garbage. We have litter in our streets and in our parks. Garbage left over from the sad days of winter which are marring our view and the enjoyment of the beauty of our communities. And yes, although we have a very attentive Department of Public Works, they cannot do it all. READ MORE

NORTH SHORE HIGH SCHOOL ROBOGYM ROBOTICS TEAM ADVANCES TO QUARTERFINALS

Congratulations to the North Shore High School Robogym Robotics Team on a wonderful season! Mr. Stephen Peroni said, “Our team had a great performance after thousands of hours of hard work and dedication by all. At both the Hudson Valley Regional and the SBPLI regional at Hofstra, our team was able to earn many points during qualifiers, and the team's members were able to interact with peers who were interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) from the United States, Brazil, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, India and Turkey. The following weekend was the SBPLI regional and the Robogym Robotics Team was able to advance to the quarterfinals, plus the team was selected to the alliance of the 2nd seed, which was greeted with much excitement from all members of our team.  

MANDARIN INTEGRATED INTO THE CURRICULUM AT NORTH SHORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

The Mandarin program in the North Shore Elementary Schools is a content-connected program which uses an interdisciplinary model to deliver both language and content instruction through a communicative approach. Mandarin is used for a minimum of 90% of the instructional time which follows the guidelines of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). READ MORE

March 24, 2017 (Reposted April 9) --The North Shore Coalition Against Substance Abuse (CASA), an organization that is forming locally with a mission to change the culture and environment that contribute to alcohol and drug abuse, and which represents a collective response to several substance abuse related tragedies involving young people in the North Shore area in recent years, is reaching out to all segments of the community to get involved.  The group will be holding its next meeting on April 26 in the High School Library at 7:30 pm.  READ MORE

PEACE CELEBRATION AT BROOKVILLE MULTIFAITH CAMPUS

The Brookville Multifaith Campus is dedicated to promoting peace and understanding across religious lines, and will be dedicating a new Peace Pole along with a Day of Hope Prayer Service.
A Peace Pole is a monument that displays the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in the language of the country where it has been placed, and at least three additional translations. Our Peace Pole is translated into Dutch to reflect our 285 year history with the Protestant Dutch Reformed Church, Hebrew to represent the Jewish members of our multifaith campus and in Arabic to reflect the Muslim members of our campus. MARITAL MILESTONES BY STEPHEN CSOKA OPENING AT SHELTER ROCK ART GALLERY APRIL 30

In 1935, artist Stephen Csoka, made his first anniversary painting for his wife Margaret. In time, the anniversary paintings/drawings grew to over 50 in number.  Stephen named these artworks Marital Milestones as indicated by the road marker in each image. Illustrated with a great deal of humor, the Milestones are a record of a family moving through the formidable events of life. The North Shore Audubon Society presents  “Warblers and their Songs ”  by Joe Giunta
Tuesday, April 25, 2017, 7 PM, Manhasset Public Library, 30 Onderdonk Avenue, Manhasset NY 11030.  www.northshoreaudubon.org   Open to the general public.  Admission is Free.
Mr. Giunta, a native New Yorker, has been an avid birder in the NY region for over 25 years.  He is the birding instructor for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and has lead bird walks for many organizations including Nature Conservancy, NYC Audubon, and Brooklyn Bird Club.  He is the owner of Happy Warblers LLC, a birding and educational travel company.  Joe will help us learn to bird by ear. He will play the songs of warblers that migrate in the spring, accompanied by his fabulous photos. Often a song will be the only clue as to who is hiding in the shrubbery. Join us and learn their beautiful songs.
