Picture
March 16, 2017 -- A meeting of the Sea Cliff Village Board of Trustees turned contentious this past Monday evening as a resident and members of the Board sparred over an e-mail and the Village’s response to the Garvies Point waterfront re-development project. . . .  During his report, Mayor Ed Lieberman read a prepared statement challenging assertions made in a private email that had been sent to some residents the previous week in which the author was critical of the Village Board’s response to the Glen Cove Waterfront development. March 18, 2017 -- The three candidates running for the two seats on the Sea Cliff Village Board and the lone candidate for Mayor offered their thoughts about issues facing Sea Cliff and how best to confront them at a Meet the Candidates forum this past Wednesday night. Despite the event having been postponed a day, the Parish Hall at St. Luke’s Church was full, with nearly 150 people in attendance. Mayor Ed Lieberman and Trustee candidates Dina Epstein, Deb McDermott and Jeff Vitale, responding to questions from about 15 different residents, addressed a variety of topics that included village governance, pocket book concerns, their respective visions for Sea Cliff, and, of course, the Garvies Point waterfront project. DEMOCRACY IN ACTION - SC VOTERS GO TO THE POLLS ON TUESDAY, MARCH 21

Picture
Above is an image of the ballot voters will have the opportunity to mark on Tuesday, March 21.  Ed Lieberman, who was appointed Mayor this past November, is seeking the office in his own right and is running unopposed. Incumbent trustees, Jeff Vitale, who was appointed to the Board this past December, and Dina Epstein, who was first elected in 2015, are running on the Civic Progress line and Deb McDermott is seeking election to her first term on the Sea Cliff Open Government line.  In the Trustee election, voters may vote for any combination of two candidates, including write-ins, or if they choose to do so, to cast a vote for only one candidate.  Resident Joe Krupinsky has announced that he is seeking election to the board as a write-in candidate.  Any resident  who meets age, citizenship, and length of residency requirements, can be elected to office as a write-in candidate either as Mayor or as a Trustee, whether they declare themselves to be a candidate or not.   CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE SEA CLIFF VILLAGE BOARD ELECTION

WHY I RESIGNED AND WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR DEB MCDERMOTT

Received from Dan Maddock, Sea Cliff
March 9, 2017

To the Editor:
I resigned as Chair of the long established Civic Progress Party because it voted to support another candidate dictated by a sitting Mayor. I strongly disagreed with that decision and could not in good conscience ask my friends and neighbors to support their ticket.  It’s not good when Mayors continually dictate who will sit on the Village Board. The Board becomes too insular and its members are reluctant to cross the person who put them on the Board or to go against the Mayor. It’s not a good situation and it’s been going on too long.

VOTE DEB MCDERMOTT - TRANSPARENT. INDEPENDENT. QUALFIED

Received from Geri Reichgut, Sea Cliff, March 16, 2017

To the Editor:
I’ve lived in Sea Cliff for almost 50 years, Trustees have come and gone, many have put their heart into doing what they could to keep Sea Cliff in step with the times and yet keep the creative, uniqueness and neighborly feeling that we all moved here for.   This election, Tuesday, March 21st held at the Children’s Library, I will be voting for Deb McDermott for Village Trustee.  She is passionate and energetic about preserving the Sea Cliff we all dearly love.  She’s extremely well qualified for the position having  worked both in the corporate world and now is also raising her two children who are currently enrolled in the Sea Cliff school.   READ MORE

BULLET VOTE DEB McDERMOTT - A COMMUNICATOR WITH PROVEN EXPERIENCE

March 16, 2017

To the Editor:
Last night the Sea Cliff Civic Association held a “Meet the Candidate” night for the upcoming Sea Cliff Village election which will be take place on March 21, 2017.
There are two trustees running as incumbents and Deb McDermott who is running for the first time for a Village trustee seat.
Incumbent Trustee Dina Epstein stated, in sum and substance, that there was no ill-will intended by the appointment of a new Mayor, a new Trustee, and a new Public Administrator which was done very quickly and not very publicly. READ MORE

LEARN ABOUT STEPPING STONE LIGHTHOUSE RESTORATION AT NS HISTORICAL MUSEUM

Picture
Wednesday March 22 7:00pm. Awareness Event.
The Great Neck Historical Society will be at the North Shore Historical Museum to discuss the restoration efforts for the Stepping Stones Lighthouse, which is situated on a rocky island off the coast of Kings Point in Long Island Sound.
Stepping Stones Lighthouse was built in 1876 to warn mariners of a shoal and extensive rocks that extend into Long Island. The lighthouse itself is in poor condition, and needs to be repaired.  If it decays any further, there is a strong probability that it will be demolished, and a navigational beacon erected in its place.  Learn about efforts to restore this important piece of local history.
