SEA CLIFF GLEN HEAD LIONS MAKES LARGE DONATION TO IZOTE

The Sea Cliff-Glen Head Lions presented members of Izote with a check for $4,000 at its Holiday Party at Cedar Creek in Glen Cove on December 4. Izote is a local, non-profit organization that supports community development projects for financially impoverished communities in rural El Salvador and Central America. The money was raised at the Lion club's annual Fall Classic golf outing. Other charities will also benefit. Click here for article on the golf outing and Izote's efforts.

GHGWBA CELEBRATES THE END OF A GREAT YEAR WITH HOLIDAY PARTY

December 18 2014 -- Members, families and friends of the Glen Head Glenwood Business Association packed the upstairs meeting hall of the Glenwood American Legion Post on Glen Head Road for the group's annual Christmas party on Wednesday evening.  The size of the crowd reflected the group's astronomical growth over the past year, with it now boasting more than 100 members compared to just 32 last September.  READ MORE

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA AT THE SEA CLIFF FIRE HOUSE

The Enterprise Hose Company of the Sea Cliff Fire Department held its annual Breakfast with Santa Fundraiser this past Sunday Morning.  Residents of all ages were served pancakes, bacon and sausage while Santa took orders from good little boys and girls and Rudolph made the rounds.

FIRE RAVAGES SEA CLIFF HOME UNDERGOING RENOVATIONS

December 18 2014 -- A Prospect Avenue house undergoing extensive renovations was significantly damaged in a fire on Thursday afternoon.  It appears to have been caused by heat guns used by men working on the structure, said Sea Cliff Fire Department Chief Ernie Longobucco. READ MORE   


CHILDREN SPINNING, SPRINGING AND SWIRLING AT ANNUAL NUTCRACKER WORKSHOP

December 16, 2014 -- Children spun, sprung and swirled to the music of Tchaikovsky at the Sea Cliff Children's Library's  annual "Introduction to the Nutcracker" workshop this past Saturday morning.  Sea Cliff resident Dan DiPietro, and his wife Ann, the Children's Library director, have organized the event each December for more than two decades, introducing to hundreds of children who have participated over the years, the story, dance, and music of the Christmas-time classic, as well as to ballet as an art form.  READ MORE

December 18, 2014 -- Sea Cliff residents from a variety of religious and spiritual persuasions turned out for Hanukkah Happening Tuesday evening at the Sea Cliff Fire Department to enjoy good company and celebrate the holiday's traditions.  Children spun dreidels, worked on crafts, and decorated cookies while snacking on latkes and chocolate gelt. MEMORIAL FOR SEA CLIFF RESIDENT AND RENOWNED PHOTOGRAPHER ARTHUR LEIPZIG TO BE HELD ON JANUARY 10

A memorial service for Sea Cliff resident and renowned photographer Arthur Leipzig will be held at the Hillwood Recital Center at the Tilles Center for Performing Arts on the LIU - C.W. Post campus in Brookville on January 10 at 1 pm.  Mr. Leipzig, who is perhaps best known for his photographs of ordinary people enjoying life in New York City during the 1940s, 50s and 60s, and who taught as an art professor at CW Post for more than two decades, passed away earlier this month at the age of 96.  Click here for the obituary that appeared in the New York Times on December 5.

JUST SIXTIES BENEFIT CONCERT FOR ARTS ANGELS COMING THIS JANUARY

On Saturday night, January 10, 2015, at 7:30 PM, North Shore High School is having a benefit for the North Shore Arts Angels. The show, “Just Sixties…The Stories…The Songs!” is a narrated, interactive show featuring the country’s longest running Sixties tribute band, Just Sixties, which was founded by North Shore High School math teacher Dr. Rob Gerver in 1982.  READ MORE

Do you love browsing through cookbooks and trying new recipes or cooking techniques?  Do you enjoy sampling and sharing new dishes? Join Cook the Book, the Gold Coast Public Library’s cookbook club.Visit the Library any time before Wednesday, January 7 and choose a slow cooker or casserole recipe from four pre-selected cookbooks, make it at home, then bring it to the program on Wednesday, January 7 at 1pm. Participants will sample the dishes and discuss the recipes. The cookbooks are at the Reference Desk. TEEN COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY AT THE GOLD COAST PUBLIC LIBRARY

Teens in Grades 6-12 can earn community service hours by teaching adults how to use their own electronic devices at the Gold Coast Public Library. Here’s how it works: Teens complete an application and signed parental permission form and drop it off at the Library or email it to Young Adult Librarian Dina Schuldner at [email protected] by January 7; then they attend a mandatory training teen-only training on Thursday, January 8 from 4:30-5:30pm. On Thursdays January 22, 29 and February 5 from 6:30-7:30pm they teach adults how to use their laptops, tablets, digital cameras, iPads, iPods, iPhones, Trackphones and any other digital device they own. Teens may attend any or all of the adult training sessions.

Applications and parental permission forms are available at the Library and online at www.goldcoastlibrary.org/departments/young-adults.
