COMMANDER IN CHIEFNext year’s North Shore School Board, regardless of which two of the three candidates currently running for trustee are chosen, will have a very unseasoned makeup. Aside from current Board President Herman Berliner, the other six trustees will start the new school year with a combined total of five years school board experience.
Joanna Commander has 33 years in public education to bring to North Shore and as our trustee she will fill the conspicuous void in the level of experience that this community needs to oversee its school district. Ms. Commander brings proven expertise in all manner of school involvement from the classroom as a former teacher, to the ball fields and the administrative offices as a highly respected Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education for the Lynbrook and Harborfields School Districts. As a self announced, recently turned senior citizen, Ms. Commander is not taking retirement sitting down. On the contrary, she is an active member of the North Shore Athletics Booster Club, the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee and serves meals to the less fortunate and marginalized at the INN Soup Kitchen in Glen Cove. When asked why she now wants to be a Trustee on the School Board she simply states “ I cherish my community and desire only to serve “. In these very tenuous times for the future of the North Shore Schools and public education as a whole, one thing is for certain. Joanna Commander has unparalleled school experience, is a proven leader and most importantly is a woman of substance, dedication and integrity. This community needs Joanna Commander. Please Vote Commander for NS Board of Education Trustee on May 20th. Tom Murphy Sea Cliff |
