LETTER TO THE EDITOR
LET'S MOVE FORWARD AND COME TOGETHERReceived from Terry Glassman
May 23, 2014 To the Editor: So, I was at the BOE Meeting last night. During public comments there was a lot of emotional discussion regarding the politics of campaigning and the mud slinging that went on. I post this here in the hopes that we can all refocus on what our district is about. First and foremost, it’s about the children/our children. This divide that has been growing in our community is destructive and hurts everyone! BOTH sides. There should not be sides, only differing opinions. I know and respect people on both sides of this divide and I believe everyone’s hearts are in the right place, they just choose different paths. Let’s not pit one side against the other. In a perfect world there would be healthy debating, rather than accusations and negativity. I like to think I am open-minded and can see both sides of an issue, even if I disagree. I believe this was the biggest asset I offered during my time on the BOE. I would and still will, listen to everyone’s opinions/ideas and consider them. I would bring the community's opinions to the board, even if they were against my own beliefs…that was part of my job. Let’s rally behind our schools and move forward with an understanding that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it must be set forth in an arena of respect. The board or the district should (and I believe does) hear everyone. The fact that they might not end up doing what you believe to be best is something that must also be respected or respectfully debated. We elect trustees to represent us. We attend BOE meetings to be heard and voice our opinions so that we will be well represented. Let’s move forward and attempt to come together as community for the benefit of everyone! Respectfully, Terry Glassman BACK TO HOME PAGE |
