STILL PARTNERS HOSTS YOUTH BAND SHOWCASE
March 27, 2017 -- Still Partners in Sea Cliff hosted a Youth Band Showcase this past Sunday afternoon that featured a dozen young musicians, ranging in age from 9-15, in five different ensembles performing an assortment of rock and jazz tunes.
All are students of local musician and instructor Frank Ferrara. The students not only perform but also help in selecting the music, he explained to the Northwordnews. "I would rather they play something that they connect with," he said. "For me it is just a matter of making sure that it's practical too. We had a pretty wide range of material this time out." Still Partners, of course, in addition to the regional and national acts it has hosted, has been a major supporter of local bands of all ages since it opened its door four years ago, with performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. "I'd like to thank Dan and Kathleen for supplying the venue, rehearsal space, vision, and 2/5ths of our jazz band," Mr. Ferrara said, and added that Sea Cliff's support for the arts has been instrumental (sorry) in providing a solid foundation for a vibrant music scene. "This all took place in the context of our village - this community is incredibly supportive of the arts," he said. "These wonderful opportunities don't take place in vacuum." newWBACK TO WEEKLY |
