SILLY SHAKESPEARE TRANSFORMS TRAGEDY INTO COMEDY AT SEA CLIFF BEACH Tragedy became comedy at Sea Cliff Beach this past Saturday evening when, playing on the theater superstition that it is bad luck to utter the name of the Avon Bard's Scottish Play, the Sea Cliff Silly Shakespeare Company performed its hilarious spoof MacNoooo! before an audience of hundreds. With local actors Jeff Blinkhoff and Jane Ringrose playing the roles of the murderously ambitious Scottish Lord and Lady, and the audience even getting into the act with a Macarena line dance, the characters, to the very end, struggled to avoid saying the dreaded name in this adaptation by Sea Cliff resident Elizabeth Sehring.
In addition to Ms. Ringrose and Mr. Blinkhoff, the cast included Carolyn Mazzu Genovesi as Barmaid 1/Third Witch "B", Ms. Serhing as Lucy Leper, Phil Schiff as Banquo, Lesley Pryde Haley as the First Witch, Roberta Fox as the Second Witch, Ann Di Pietro as the Third Witch "A" and the Gentlewoman, Dan DiPietro as Duncan, Anthony Genovesi as Malcolm, Brent Albala as Ross, Kevin McDonagh as MacDuff, Kathleen Valentine as Hecate, Joe Kiggins as First Murderer, Rob Wilgoos as Second Murderer, Petr Luftig as the Doctor, and Dianna LeMieux as the Messenger and a Barmaid. The Sea Cliff based acting troupe has been entertaining local audiences for over a decade with what it calls “Shakespeare with a twist”- original, abridged, comic versions of William Shakespeare’s works. This past spring the Company took the show on the road with performances in Port Washington and Haworth New Jersey. Saturday's show was the Sea Cliff Beach Performance Pavilion's closing act for this year. MacNoooo! BACK TO HOME PAGE |
