SEA CLIFF WELCOMES THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF YEAR WITH ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING
Hundreds of holiday season merrymakers packed the John Burns Village Green for Sea Cliff's annual Christmas Tree Lighting this past Sunday evening. Village emcee John Canning officially kicked the festivities off with an introduction and an a cappella version of “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of Year,” while local guitarist and songstress Kris Rice entertained the crowd with an assortment of holiday classics. Attention was then directed towards Central Avenue, where young students from the Long Island Ballet & Dance Academy in Sea Cliff performed the "Party Scene" from the Nutcracker. The crowd steadily grew warmer and larger as more carols were sung, and complimentary hot apple cider and saki were generously served by Musu. Sea Cliff Gospel Church Pastor David Collins offered a blessing and Reverend Curtlin Watkins of the Sea Cliff Methodist Church read the Christmas Story from the Gospel of Luke. Then, as the multicolored lights on the three story spruce in front of the library steps were lit, the wassailers broke into a rousing rendition of O Tannenbaum. Soon, Santa’s sleigh arrived and Mr. and Mrs. Claus descended the library steps distributing candy canes and taking orders. As the celebration waned outside, many retired to the basement of Village Hall where they enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies.
