SEA CLIFF CIVIC ASSOCIATION WELCOMES NEWCOMERS
The Sea Cliff Civic Association held its annual Newcomer's Party on Sunday September 25, welcoming more than three dozen of new residents to the village. Once again hosted by Association President Ann DiPietro and her husband Dan at their home on Main Avenue, guests were treated to wine, pastries, a generous array of hors d'oeuvres donated by the Metropolitan Bistro, and of course a round of the Civic Association's Sea Cliff Trivia Challenge.
The Civic Association has been holding the welcoming party for more than 30 years now, and not only does it offer Sea Cliff rookies the opportunity to get to know each other but also to learn about Village services and the many opportunities to become integrated into village life. "Get involved," urged Village Trustee Ed Lieberman who on behalf of the Village Board welcomed the newcomers and spoke about village government and its accessibility. Library Director Arlene Nevens presented the newcomers with on-the-spot library cards and talked about the rich variety of services there, including access to e-books and the availability of passes to museums in the City and on Long Island such as MOMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Gugenheim, the Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum, Long Island Children's Museum and Westbury Gardens. In her remarks, Ms. DiPietro said that of all the Civic Assoiation's 25 events held over the course of the year, the one "nearest and dearest to her heart" is the Scrooge Stroll. And just as Ebenezer Scrooge is at a crossroads in his life and asking himself whether he has made the right decisions, so too are those who have recently settled in Sea Cliff. "And you," she said, "have made the best decision of your life in coming here. You can search the world over and never find a better place." Among the many great events the Sea Cliff Civic Association sponsors over the course of the year are the: Progressive Dinner, Cider Social, Newcomers' Weloming Party, Meet the Candidates Debate, Village-wide Garage Sale, Thanksgiving Turkey Hunt, Ice Cream Social, White Cap Awards, Scrooge Stroll, Sunset Serenade Concert Series, Shakespeare at the Beach, James Joyce Jaunt, Starry Starry Night, Singing By the Sea, and the Fourth of July Declaration of Independence Reading and Celebration." The Civic Association's Officers and Board include: Ann DiPietro, Tina Marchese, Lorraine Garry, Chris Schatz, Christine Abbenda Hughes, Diane Biolsi, Patricia DeMaio, Julie Gordon Hert, Heidi Hunt, Petrice Kaider, Karen Kessler, Laurie Martone, Laura Parker Russo, Sarah Kaplan and Jen O'Hare.
