DRIZZLE DOESN'T DAMPEN SEA CLIFF MINI MART MERRIMENT AS STREET FAIR ATTRACTS THOUSANDS
|
Despite overcast skies and an occasional light drizzle, thousands turned out for the 2013 Sea Cliff Mini Mart. Artisans and retailers peddled their wares; beer flowed freely from street kegs and at the local bars and restaurants; the scents of sausage and peppers and zeppoles wafted through the damp air; and people were dancing in the streets to music performed by local musicians and bands like Title Groove, the Lazy Dogs, and Chickenhead. And while the occasional mass produced and packaged item could be found, it was the hand-made crafts, arts and other items that were the real attraction for shoppers - from wheeled StreetSkeez skillfully made out of water skis, to Peace Soap, to hand-made fall wreaths, jewelry, pottery, and metal sculptures, to the works of local artists, to simple but cleverly designed bows and arrows. With only 30 days to election day, the Mini Mart was also a candidate magnet, with Democrats and Republicans alike handing out flyers, and happily posing for pictures.
