MAYOR APPOINTS ROBYN MAYNARD TO SEA CLIFF BOARD OF TRUSTEES
February 14, 2016 -- At the Monday February 8 Sea Cliff Village Board meeting, Mayor Bruce Kennedy announced that Trustee Elena Villafane, citing health reasons, had informed the board the previous week that she was stepping down from her post effective immediately. The Mayor then appointed and swore in resident Robin Maynard to fill out the remainder of Ms. Villafane's term which ends in April.
Ms. Villafane, a long time village resident and attorney, was first elected to the Village Board of Trustees back in 2003, and served for three terms, before deciding to not seek re-election in 2009. She was returned to the Board by voters in 2014. "This board wishes Elena the best," said Mayor Bruce Kennedy. "She is a wonderful woman and a hard worker, and she is going to be missed." "Elena has been a fantastic, knowledgeable, and wonderful mentor to me," remarked Trustee Dina Epstein a few minutes later. Mayor Kennedy said that "in the interest of continuity in government" he had decided to appoint Ms. Maynard to the board. He described Ms. Maynard as "a long time resident who is hard working and smart." Ms. Maynard, also an attorney, is a director of the Sea Cliff-based Gottlieb foundation, a charitable trust that has contributed to various organizations and projects in Sea Cliff over the years, including significant support for the restoration of the Stenson Memorial Children's Library ceiling last spring, and construction of the Arts Pavilion at Sea Cliff Beach in 2010. An election for the seats now occupied by Ms. Maynard and Trustee Kevin McGilloway will be held on March 15th. Candidate petitions were due on February 9. Mr. McGilloway and Ms. Maynard were the only two residents to have submitted petitions by the deadline. The Sea Cliff Civic Association will host a "Meet the Candidates" forum on Tuesday March 8.
