SEA CLIFF COMMEMORATES MEMORIAL DAY
by Philip Como
As has been its custom for many years, Sea Cliff will observe Memorial Day with a parade featuring Village Organizations and bands, followed by a brief program in Clifton Park. The parade will begin in the area of Memorial Park at the western end of Sea Cliff Avenue at 9 a.m. on Monkday, May 25th. The event concludes at 10:20 a.m. with a memorial tribute in Clifton Park. Memorial Day is a national holiday that pays homage to those Americans who have perished in service to the military of the United States. The parade organizer in Sea Cliff is the James F. Brengel American Legion Post. James F. Brengel is actually the name of two men, a father and son who died 26 years apart in the two world wars. James F. Brengel Sr. died in France in November 1918, leaving behind a pregnant wife. James F. Brengel Jr. perished in France shortly after the D Day invasion of June 1944. Our Village has annually paid the proper respect to this day by staging very successful parades and participation has always been strong. This year, all residents are encouraged to participate, either as marchers or spectators. The parade will step of from Memorial Park shortly after 9 a.m., and proceed down Sea Cliff Avenue to Roslyn Avenue, and turn right, march to Glen Avenue and turn left to march down to Clifton Park. Please consider showing your support fot this event either as a marcher or spectator along the parade route. This article originally appeared in the Sea Cliff Village Bulletin BACK TO WEEKLY |
