SELL OUT CROWD ATTENDS SEA CLIFF BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE'S LUNCHEON AT THE METROPOLITAN BISTRO
October 12 -- The Sea Cliff Beautification Committee held its annual luncheon this past Thursday at the Metropolitan Bistro in Sea Cliff - a change of venue from the Bailey Arboretum, where the event had been held in past years. The change seems to have paid off, not only because the restaurant on Roslyn Avenue was filled to capacity and tickets sold out, but also for the wonderful fare of assorted wraps and salads that the guests enjoyed.
"Sea Cliff in Bloom" was the theme of this year's event, and photos of the village's beautiful and diverse flora - all by local photographers - were displayed throughout the restaurant, and available for sale. Attendees were also treated to an interesting talk on exotic plants by Sea Cliff resident Dan Grady.
Many local businesses and residents contributed generously to the event, offering meals, gift certificates, goods, and services that were raffled off to lucky luncheon-goers.
Sea Cliff resident Lee Janelli, who attended the luncheon with a group of friends commented, "we were happy to be there this year to support our friend Sally Davies and the Beautification Committee. It was a lovely event."
In addition to the luncheon, the Beautification Committee holds two other fundraisers over the course of the year - the Secret Gardens Tour and the annual Plant Sale held on the lawn of St. Lukes Church each Spring.
These events help support the many services the committee provides to the Sea Cliff community. They include: maintaining parks; beautifying and maintaining small patches of greenery throughout the village; adorning the light poles along Sea Cliff Avenue with flower baskets during warm months, and evergreen wreaths during the holiday season; upgrading and maintaining the Central Park playground; and publishing a quarterly newsletter, "Field Notes," that offers, among other things, gardening and horticultural advice.
