SUMMER SEASON WINDS DOWN WITH SEA CLIFF BEACH FUN DAY AND ARTS COUNCIL FUNDRAISERThe 2013 summer season at Sea Cliff beach came to a close this Labor Day weekend with the Sea Cliff Beach Committee's "Fun Day" on Sunday afternoon, and the 3rd Annual Arts and Groove fundraiser for the Sea Cliff Arts Council later that evening.
In the morning, it appeared as the day's scheduled events might not go on at all, as thunderclaps caused lifeguards to close the beach to swimming at around 10:30 a.m. By noon however, the water was open again, and lifeguards weighed anchor on the beach raft and pushed it ashore, bringing only a symbolic end to the season. By the afternoon, dozens of children, and some energetic and uninhibited parents and a mayor, were participating in a variety of Fun Day events including a tug o' war, pass the greasy watermelon, and playing "Simon Says" while balancing on paddle boards. In the evening, the local band Ride (Joe Ciampa - guitar; Kris Henderson - percussion; Nick Pinto - Bass; Kris Rice - vocals; and, Dan Roth - Drums) entertained the audience with some funk, while attendees had the opportunity to view and purchase artwork, and bid in a silent auction on works donated by local artists. Although lifeguards will no longer be on duty and the concession stand closed, events at the beach will continue throughout September. On Saturday, September 7th at 5:30 pm, the Sea Cliff Fire Department is holding its Music on the Harbor fundraiser. And two weeks later, on Saturday September 21 at 6 pm, the Sea Cliff Silly Shakespeare Company will be performing the Real Housewives of Henry the Eighth. |
