LETTER TO THE EDITOR
AN OUTSTANDING CHOICE FOR SEA CLIFF TRUSTEE
Received From Roger Friedman, Sea Cliff
February 16, 2017 To the Editor: It gives me great pleasure to endorse Deborah McDermott as a candidate for village trustee. I have known Deb as a friend, as a fellow committee member on the Legislative Action Committee for the North Shore School Systems Board of Education and as a triathlon teammate. In her four years as a member, Secretary, and Chairperson of LAC, Deb worked tirelessly to advocate for our students, our taxpayers, and our property values. As a member of LAC, Deb acquired a great deal of experience and knowledge dealing with local, county and state legislation, and gained a solid understanding of state and local taxation. Deb was also instrumental in organizing and executing North Shore’s “Legislative Night” which brought together all of our local representatives in a very informative and interactive public forum. Deb gained respect from the public as well as the lawmakers as a result of this effort. At LAC I acquired respect and admiration for her integrity, intelligence, and dedication to our community. Deborah, a 12-year Sea Cliff resident, graduated from Wellesley College, where she was an excellent student, a four-time Individual NCAA All-American and a three-time NCAA Relay All-American in Swimming. Deb never finished lower than sixth place in any regional competition. She was recently inducted into the Wellesley Hall of Fame! She and her husband Dan, and their two children, live in a beautiful home that is often the center of impromptu gatherings of neighborhood friends. Both are very well liked, active, and respected in the community, where they have served long hours as volunteers in the local sports programs and in the aforementioned LAC. As a friend I know Deb to be devoted, caring, thoughtful and kind… and a fierce competitor. Deb and I competed together in a relay triathlon and because of her dedication to training, we won. Her time in the swimming leg of the race was equal to that of the elite men, and two minutes better than our closest competitor! That is the kind of fierce dedication Deb will bring to serving our beautiful and most cherished village. All of the above attributes, as well as her dedication to open and inclusive government, add to the proud enthusiasm with which I support Deb McDermott as a candidate for Village Trustee.
