THE WINTER OF OUR DISCONTENT MADE GLORIOUS SUMMER BY SILLY SHAKESPEARE’S RICHARD THE NERD
By Northwordnews
June 16, 2016 -- With meteorologists forecasting a potential tempest (but actually making much ado about nothing), the Silly Shakespeare Company abandoned Sea Cliff Beach for the shelter of St. Luke’s Church to perform its spoof Richard the Nerd before a packed parish hall audience on Saturday June 11. Adapted by Phil Schiff and Elizabeth Rose Sehring and starring Peter Luftig in the title role - the play tells the story of a nerdy, know-it-all knave who cannot resist showing off his smarts exasperating those around him with lectures on grammar, mathematics, or the periodic table as he manipulates and murders his way to the throne, only to get his comeuppance at the hands of the Man of Steel in the play’s final scene. In addition to Mr. Luftig, the cast included Ms. Sehring and Mr. Schiff, as well as Carolyn Mazzu Genovesi, Phil Essex, Lesley Pridye Haley, Jeff Blinkoff, Rob Wilgoos, Marielle Genovesi, Karin Barnaby, Jessica Donvan, Jane Ringrose, Roebera Fox, Phil Essex, Dan DiPietro, and Ann DiPietro. The Crew included Ms. Serhring (Director), Mr. Schiff (Casting Director), Phil Essex (Technical Director), Mr. Luftig (Additional Dialogue), Julia Lanotte, Ms. Barnaby, and Serena Shen (Costumes), Jane Ringrose (Property Director), Tracey Greenfield (Choreographer), Mr. Blinkoff and Kevin McDonagh (Sets); Mr. Essex and Jamie Commando (Sound), Mr. McDonagh (Posters and Design), Geoffey Kappenberg (Videographer), Anthony Genovese (Photographer). The Sea Cliff based acting troupe, the Silly Shakespeare Company, has been entertaining audiences for over a decade with what it calls “Shakespeare with a twist”- original, abridged, comic versions of the Bard’s works. |
