SEA CLIFF METHODIST CHURCH HOLDS ITS ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL
October 20 -- On Saturday, the pumpkin patch at the corner of Carpenter and Downing Avenues was the site of an assortment of autumnal activities as the Sea Cliff Methodist Church hosted its annual Fall Festival.
The event was both educational and fun as attendees could learn about Native American culture from the Explorers Club of Hicksville, who created their own Native-American wardrobes, or watch a professional pumpkin carver sculpt the orange squash into a life-like human face. A representative of the Garvies Point Museum was also on hand to advertise the events the museum devoted to Long Island's geological and historical past will host this fall including the Native American festival in November. The Village Pre-School sponsored a crafts table and the Boy Scout Troop 43 of Sea Cliff took orders for Holiday wreaths. In addition, kids could enjoy bouncing in an inflatable castle, games, and having their faces painted. Inside the church, an International Food Court offered delicious fall fare. And of course, festival goers could also purchase pumpkins. In late September, volunteers unloaded and spread 3,000 of them across the church's lawn, creating a spectacular field of orange on lawn of the United Methodist Church of Sea Cliff. The pumpkins were grown at the Navajo reservation in the four corners region of the United States, and proceeds from the sale will go back to the Navajo nation. |
