OUR SAVIORS LUTHERAN CELEBRATES JOY OF CHRISTMAS SEASON WITH LIVING NATIVITY PLAY AND MADRIGALS PERFORMANCE
December 23 -- Our Savior's Lutheran celebrated the arrival of the Christmas season with events on successive Friday evenings that have now become tradition at the Church on Glen Head Road..
The sanctuary resounded with the joyful voices of the North Shore High School Madrigals, this past weekend. Under the direction of music teacher Ashley Hassett-Bordes, the choral group performed a rich variety of holiday standards, spirituals and classical pieces. With little encouragement needed, the audience enthusiastically joined in for Joy to the World and Jingle Bells. And as the concert neared its conclusion, many accepted Ms. Hassett's invitation to join the Madrigals in the front of the sanctuary to sing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. A week earlier, the church held its annual Living Nativity. In three separate performances, youth in the religious education program, from pre-k through college, and their teachers, played the roles of Mary, Joseph, Herod, the three wise men, angels and shepherds, as real live animals gave the stable an authentic appearance and sound. The church's talented choir led the audience in singing the traditional carols Silent Night, Oh Come, All Ye Faithful, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Angels We Have Heard on High, and Joy to the World. Throughout the evening, the "stable" doubled as a petting zoo, where children were given the opportunity to feed and pet the farm animals. In addition, hot chocolate and baked goods were served, and some even got in a little holiday shopping at the Advent gift shop. BACK TO HOME PAGE BACK TO WEEKLY |
