The 10th Annual North Shore High School Track and Field Invitational took place this past Saturday, May 10th. It was a glorious day, as approximately 50 schools across Long Island and over a 1,000 athletes came to North Shore to compete in this tremendous inaugural event. The track and field events ranged from the standard sprints, hurdles, jumps, and throws. Plus both men and women distance races and relays. Fan favorites included the steeplechase and pole vault! Meet Directors Ed Corona and Neal Levy would like to thank all of the parents that volunteered their time to help make this event a successful one. In addition, congratulations to all of the students who competed! Their dedication and love of the sport could be felt by all of those in attendance throughout the entire exciting day. MATH FAIR MEDAL MANIA; NORTH SHORE WAS TOPS ON LONG ISLANDArticle by Shelly Newman
North Shore again led all Long Island schools at the 2014 Long Island Math Fair, held at Hofstra University on Friday May 2. Over 1000 students from Nassau and Suffolk participated in the Fair. North Shore High School students garnered 22 Gold Medals, 11 Silver Medals, and 4 Bronze Medals. The 37 total medals and 22 Gold Medals were tops on the Island. William Rosencrans, a North Shore eleventh grader, received the Alice Griswold Award for the best paper at the Math Fair. Math teacher, Dr. Robert Gerver said, “Will studied ‘Regions Created by Cevians’ and extended his readings into original findings incorporating consecutive integers, even integers, odd integers and Fibonacci numbers. He will be honored at the Nassau County Math Teachers Association annual dinner onMay 21 in Syosset.” Congratulations to all of the students and their math teachers!
