NORTHWINDS SYMPHONIC BAND ANNUAL SALUTE TO VETERANS CONCERT ON SUNDAY, NOV. 20
No Finer Calling: Salute to Veteran’s Concert In tribute to our nation's veterans, the Northwinds Symphonic Band, under the direction of Helen P. Bauer, will open its tenth concert season with a special performance at the Wunsch Arts Center, Glen Cove, NY on Sunday, November 20th at 3:00 PM. The band will honor veterans past and present, performing a variety of patriotic standards as well as new publications that pay tribute to the rich history of our country and American military personnel. Northwinds is proud to be performing No Finer Calling, by American composer Julie Giroux that was written to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the United States Air Force. Also included in the program will be America Forever March, Salute to the Armed Forces and music by John Philip Sousa and Alfred Reed. Other selections include a swinging arrangement of music by Duke Ellington, and Land of Liberty, which recounts our rich heritage in patriotic song. Renowned soprano, Stephanie Horowitz of Merrick, will sing Gabriel Fauré’s meltingly beautiful Pie Jesu as well as the jazz classic The Birth of the Blues. Violin prodigy, Matthew Hill, will be featured in the haunting Theme from Schindler’s List by film composer John Williams. Glen Cove resident Robert Staade will display his extensive collection of military memorabilia dating from WWII to the present. Please join us to honor America’s Greatest Heroes.
